In this life I've seen everything I can see, woman... I've seen Don Arden name-dropped in a work of fiction that isn't related to ELO!
The book is Utopia Avenue by David Mitchell, set in 1967 about a fictional band trying to break into the British music scene. Seemed interesting enough to give a shot based on the handful of random pages I flipped through, I think I'll try to find it at the library. Has anyone here read it?

I like David Mitchell's books but I haven't heard of this one.

Maybe it's time to start an "ELO references in everyday conversation" thread..... I come downstairs and nobodyschild calls out to me, "Quick, give me a girl's name." "Uhh... I dunno... I'm trying to think of something less basic than Susan." "Oh. No, *not* Susan." It takes a second to sink in, then we both realize what's just been said, and are reduced to tears from laughing so hard.

Coincidence corner, I downloaded this book a couple of weeks ago, but haven't started reading it yet.

Just killing a bit of time when I came across the cover art of the George Harrison song ' This is love'. What springs to mind here?

Thanks for putting the cover on StrangeMagic, Havn't worked out how to do that yet. You do it with the Add Attachment button. You'll be prompted to upload a file from your hard drive. Then click "insert" where you want it in the post.

40 years ago today! Casey Kasem's American Top 40 - The 80's from August 30th, 1980, is on this weekend, "This is Casey on AT40 in Hollywood and now we're up to the busiest Top 40 act in the countdown, this act has hit the Top 40 more times than any other in the past year, a twelve month period that's been very busy for such super names as Donna Summer, Michael Jackson, Kenny Rogers, The Commodores and Linda Ronstadt, they've all hit and they've hit big, but none has hit as often as this particular British super group, just to give you an idea of how regularly this group has hit The 40 you have to understand that Michael Jackson, The Commodores, Kenny Rogers and Donna Summer have all placed four big hits in the Top 40 in the past year, but this 7-man super group has hit the Top 40 in the past twelve months a remarkable six times, and they've done it with Don't Bring Me Down, Confusion, Last Train to London, I'm Alive, All Over the World and this week they debuted in The 40 teaming up with Olivia Newton-John in the song called Xanadu, all these within the past twelve months, who else could it be but the amazing Electric Light Orchestra and this week one of the two current hits by ELO is in our countdown at #23, here's, All Over the World" PS-Then if you count "Shine a Little Love" it's seven times!

based on my heart, have to go with Mik based on my eyes, Rosie surprisingly, the guitar rigged up to sound like a violin was really good

For Livin' Thing, it has to be Mik. All other fiddler's, sorry, violinists are a bit too aggressive with the intro.
