Discovery has been my album of choice while doing some treadmill work the last couple of weeks. It was the first ELO album I bought so it will always have a special place in my musical memories... I was just thinking about how many of us wish Jeff would dig a little deeper when choosing songs for shows. If (and it is a big if) Jeff ever tours again wouldn't it be neat if On the Run replaced Roll Over as the show closer? The ending of On The Run always sounded like the Spaceship closing up to my ears... I'm not saying that Roll Over should be eliminated from the set as it has a huge place in ELO's history and always allowed the musicians in the band to stretch out/jam a bit, but this sort of change to the show would be welcome - to me at least! Yes I know the chances of this happening are slim/none, just a thought - or was it 'Wishing'....?

I never liked ROB anyway so any other song would get my vote for the encore. On The Run? why not....

If he tours again I'd like to see a lot of differences in the set

If he tours again I'd like to see a lot of differences in the set We'd ALL like to see a more varied setlist, will it happen? I'm not holding my breath....

I'd love to see Jeff do a residency at a smaller venue where an album could be played in it's entirety. I know that a number of other bands have done that. I'd love to hear Eldorado at the Royal Albert Hall with a full Orchestra for example. Then a smattering of hits at the end. Or a deep cuts/rare cuts set would be great .
There'd be a demand in certain quarters but I'm certain that it wont happen.

I don't think so...the last several tours have been relatively static.

I guess he won't 'learn' any new songs, (even though he writ them) but he risks more apathy from his real fans if he doesn't change. I seriously felt short changed in 2019 after paying good money to see an almost identical show to Wembley. He doesn't need to extend the show, just change 5 or 6 songs. I'd personally drop Do Ya, 10538, When I was A Boy, Shine A Little Love and Handle With Care, replace with Horace Wimp, Hold On Tight (or any other Time hit) and maybe another song from Eldorado but hey, what do I know and why should Jeff care about what I think.....

Timeblue I agree with most of your choices to drop from the setlist. I have a different set of replacements in mind, though. Top of my list to add in in place of those: Big Wheels, Sweet is the Night, Boy Blue, Hold on Tight, Getting to the Point. But it's never going to happen...

Purely anecdotal but I noticed the most muted reactions in the shows I saw, in 2016, came in response to Twilight and Secret Messages, where 'polite applause' was the best you could describe it. You dan divide ELO audiences into 'general' fans '75-'79 hits only please, and the 'serious fans' like us who'd like a bit more depth and breadth in the set-list but it 's pretty unlikely at this point. If you want fill a 15-20k seat arena you are not going to do it on the "No Hits, Album Tracks Only" tour, but I'd pay to see it (and retiring MBS, even for a while, would be no bad thing).

Seeing Jeff & Co live for the first time in 2016 I was delighted with the opener - Tightrope and later on, Secret Messages. The Big Gig the next year brought us Last Train, Shine, and the biggest surprise - Twilight.
As for Roll Over - it's a crowd-pleaser. It gives the whole band a chance to have fun. I also see it as Jeff acknowledging someone else's song that he values a lot. I can't think of a more suitable encore.
My preferences - I too would love Big Wheels. I fondly remember the Part II mob performing it in one of their Hammersmith Apollo appearances. And, even though Zoom comes in for too much stick, I'd love it if some of those songs found their way into the running order. Long Black Road would be the icing on the cake!

I have never understood why 'Hold On Tight' never gets played. It was after all their last 'top 10' hit in the UK and is a real crowd pleaser. How about an encore of 'On The Run/Hold On Tight.' That'd be a blast.

Hold On Tight is a good call for the encore.

I'm on a Kiss discussion board as well, and one of the most frequent topics are stale setlists. If you are a die hard fan and go to many concerts, you're tired of hearing the same 17 songs.
But I don't think either Jeff or Kiss is going to change their set list anytime soon... and Jeff isn't the kind of guy who suddenly does a "fun" gig with a lot of deep cuts.

True but even casual fans will tire of the same songs every time...

I think casual fans would only go to one show, once in a while, so they'd be quite happy just to hear the usual suspects. They probably don't even know many album tracks, let alone deep cuts. But they're the ones who buy tickets in the largest amounts so it's mostly them Jeff needs to try to please.
