Was the deleted poster called Phil? He has got a bad press now (I'm Phil as well) Not theee Phil from time of our life timeblue. Surely you could get a signed copy of Time from Geoff ...

I agree, its the best quality copy yet, but BF is an awful song and I really don't understand why everyone seems to go on about it SO much. Especially when Jeff has done SO many other great songs and albums.

The fact that it was left off the double-album release speaks for itself.
Funny, though. When I first heard it, I thought "Hmm... Not half bad". Now - "Not great!"
I don't think that my life is worse off, not having a pristine copy to listen to

Beatles Forever is/was a big deal because it was predicted to be “a big hit single” by Kelly in a Hit Parader mag interview. When it wasn’t on the Secret Messages album it was like “what’s going on here?” Only years later did I find out about the planned double album etc. ELO needed a big jolt in popularity in ‘83 as Time under-performed sales wise in North America. After John’s death Beatles nostalgia was running high. George hit big with All Those Years Ago as did Stars on 45. My expectations were high for a mega hit for my favourite band but it was a solid hit instead with RnR is King followed by a stiff with 4 Little Diamonds and an album that didn’t make Gold and no tour... Lawsuit, Black Sabbath, Electric Dreams, Balance of Payments and then it was over.,.

When it wasn’t on the Secret Messages album it was like “what’s going on here?” Only years later did I find out about the planned double album etc. This describes my experience perfectly. I remember learning about SM from that mag piece, and then when it appeared I was all "wtf?"
Even if we all agreed that BF sucks, it should still be on the complete version of SM, because even a member of the band was saying it was going to be on there. Jeff deciding that it should not be there on the 35th anniversary is a rewriting of the history.

Could it be (me being cynical) that because Kelly liked it and making his prediction, Jeff thought "no way" as things were turning sour big time between them? There must have been a full and complete version from the start and not just the poor quality version that we know of for Kelly to make his statement.

We will never know why Jeff left this out of the double album, it’s a song when I first heard it I didn’t like at all, but after a few listens it has grown on me a bit and I now wish it had been put on. It’s by no means ELOs best but deserves to be remembered. Maybe the 40th.....

Personally,I still don't get it. It still sounds a bit contrived and lazy.

Personally,I still don't get it. It still sounds a bit contrived and lazy. I agree, even though it is not my least favourite song on the "complete" SM. (Hello, Rock And Roll Is King.)
I think every ELO album has at least one meh song.
But BF belongs on the "complete" SM.

It does belong, I agree. Maybe one day we will get a COMPLETE 'complete collection' ...
