I wish I'd been wiser and gone in with zero expectations so I could've been pleasantly surprised if anything did materialize...
I'm with you there - the downside of social media and daily forum chatter... In the old days of course no-one paid much attention to anniversaries until the marketing people decided to take advantage of one. Now we have calendar-watchers teasing releases many of which have never been planned and in some cases don't even exist! 😆 True. But I did expect (still hope for) vinyl re-issues of better quality than those a few years back. Its frustrating that On the Third Day, Night the Light… and Balance of Power have not been re-issued on vinyl at all. Then again, they would probably re-issue OTTD with the wrong cover not the original tri-fold.

Clear vinyl reissues for On The Third Day and Balance Of Power were intended to round out that series, but the whole campaign was quietly scrapped along with a planned follow-up to that first singles box for reasons unknown. Also, we're very unlikely to see Long Beach back in print unless it's the expanded 2CD Legacy Deluxe Edition that Rob Caiger teased years ago, but with his recent track record for promising so much, delivering so little and doing a lot that I'd consider unnecessary in between, I wouldn't hold your breath...

Anyone know anything more about this? Is it a one-off or the start of a series? There's an expensive vinyl version too: Eldorado

I Remember Some years ago MFSL announced this edition of "Eldorado" but was somehow cancelled...Let's see how this one compares to the Steve Hoffman 24kt Gold Disc Which Is Marvellous...Let's Hope MFSL Releases More ELO into the future that would be awesome...For Those Who May Wonder I Honestly Doubt This Is Part Of The 50th Anniversary Celebration...IMO That Ball Is In SONY's Court

Yeah, this "new" reissue of Eldorado definitely isn't part of Sony's plans, but rather something MFSL had been trying to get out of the door a few years ago. From what I can tell, they're using a stereo cutting tape that's the same generation as the 2001 remaster, though I've no idea whether this will be a flat transfer, something their team has worked on independently or if it will be in line with the 2015 high resolution version, which was all set to provide a definitive upgrade to the whole catalogue until someone (naming no names) requested that the perfectly good work be run through a compressor, adding a blanket 6dB to everything in the process.
As for what Sony has coming up, were those Japanese paper sleeve Mini-LP BSCD2 repackages of the 1973-2019 albums its import division's way of getting something out because they knew nothing else is in the pipeline? At the very least, it would be unlikely for them to put their weight behind these if there were competing internal products also scheduled. I guess we'll find out soon enough, yet as I've said before, it makes absolutely no sense for a legacy act of ELO's level to be completely avoiding such a milestone as its 50th anniversary. Under exceptional circumstances that I can imagine being a nightmare for even the logistics department of the biggest labels out there, we should cut them some slack. Besides, Jeff's social media accounts have promised is some kind of celebration.
P.S. In somewhat connected news, ONJ's archival team recently teased overhauling her own discography, and while any expanded edition of Xanadu would be produced with only her team involved, there's always the chance they've been able to negotiate for the release of previously unheard content from the ELO side of things.

1. When the Mother Ocean is torn ~ The Emperor of the Universe 2. Did the blue bird die? 3. Susan in despair 4. The dawn of the new world-when the mother ocean tears 5. Showdown 6. Great dawn 7. My cousin's bell 8. Dark Incubus 9. In the hall of the Great Mountain
<Bonus Tracks> 10. Anti (Itoshi no Bell Take 1) 11. Anti (Itoshi no Bell Take 2) 12. Mambo (Dreaming of 4000 Alto Mix) 13. Every Ones Bone to Die 14. Interlude
If I didn't know that this is due to the bad translation, I would order this album immediately.
