very extreme things - true I didn't make them up though. All of those claims are circulating on social media. I don't think that even the people that make YouTube videos of their vaccinated wife having metal spoons stuck to her face believe that stuff. They either do it for fun or to get attention or perhaps even in the hope of making a few bucks if their video goes viral. but a sizeable group do seem to believe that somehow the vaccine (and masks) are just some sort of government plot to control their lives as opposed to a government effort to protect their health people don't talk to each other in reasonable ways anymore they separate into camps that believe the other side is communist or fascist or stupid or evil and then the media has every incentive to stoke the outrage in order to get more views or reads I'm glad you got the vaccine. The ELO forum is mostly free of the crazy stuff that I'm talking about. It's my oasis from crazy people. At least until someone brings up the topic of Jeff reconciling with Bev

OK I'm a taking a dive into this one! Forgive met if some of the below has already been covered. Let me firstly say I'm so glad your son has recovered Orioles70.
As some of you may know I work in a Cemetery & Crematorium and my Mrs is a Funeral Arranger we have seen a lot of Families who have lost loved ones to this . All my family have been vaccinated and would encourage others to do so given the opportunity. I'm 58 and type 2 diabetic. I had no side effects at all . Other people I know had head aches achey arm etc. I have a colleague caught who covid early on last yr , was in a coma for 42 days and is having to learn to walk again. I also have a colleague who caught it, suffered very mild symptoms but has been left with long term nerve damage to his leg. I have a colleague who tested positive and suffered no ill effects at all. My 29 yo son caught it (probably when he went to Silverstone to watch the British GP) He has been double vaxxed and suffered very mild symptoms. We know that the reaction to the disease itself is hugely varying. The reaction to the vaccine also varies. It does with every vaccine.I didn't react to the BCG when I was at school. Turns out I'd been passed an immunity from my Nan. I don't think it's correct to say that the vaccines were developed riskily hastily. We knew a pandemic was coming we just didn't know what it would be so the scientists called it Disease X (Or summat). They based the vacciines on existing technology and once the covid 19 protein spike was isolated connected the part of the vaccine that attacked it to the already developed bit.
"Safety trials begin in the lab, with tests and research on cells and animals, before moving on to human studies. The principle is to start small and only move to the next stage of testing if there are no outstanding safety concerns. If the safety data from the labs is good, scientists can check the vaccine or treatment is effective. That means tests on large numbers of volunteers - about 40,000 in the case of Pfizer-BioNTech, the first to be approved in the UK. Half are given the vaccine and the other half a placebo jab. The researchers and participants are not told which group is which, until after the results, to avoid bias. All of the work and findings are checked and verified independently. The Covid vaccine trials happened at breakneck speed, but they didn't skip any steps - they were able to move faster because so many people were involved and other projects were put aside. The UK's drug regulator says new vaccines can be fast-tracked for approval if needed. No corners will be cut, with safety paramount. But lengthy clinical trials with thousands of volunteers will not be needed. Instead, data from existing studies and ongoing real-world use could be used. Vaccines do not give you a disease. Instead, they teach your body's immune system to recognise and fight the infection they have been designed to protect against. Some people do experience mild to moderate symptoms after being vaccinated. This is not the disease itself, but the body's response to the vaccine. Common reactions that may affect more than one in 10 people and typically get better within days include chills, tiredness and aching muscles."
I took the above from an article on the BBC website
The other things that have traditionally held up vaccine development are money and red tape. The red tape was cut and money flung at this. It would seem to me that should you catch this and have been double jabbed that you are in a far better place than if not. You might be lucky. Be unvaccinated and hardly suffer . I didn't want to take that risk. I don't think that people should be forced to take the jab. However, they may have to face consequences such as travel or life insurance premiums being high or maybe not being allowed in to a certain pub or restaurant or even country. I'm not going to get righteous on anyone. I evaluated the risk as I saw it and made my decision. If others don't want to that's there right to refuse. The one thing that does annoy me a little is people who say "I'm not going to risk it , it's dangerous" blah blah but then say "But if i need it to go to Mexico/Cuba/Greece/Whereever I'll have it then"
On a final note . as my sons has said to a few of his mates " you're happy to sniff god knows what up your nose, that's travelled halfway round the work up some ones bum and you wont have a covid jab"?! And a final final note. One of the common side affects of paracetamol is that it can give you a headache. Yep that's right something you take when you have a headache can give you headache and when was the last time you read the side affect leaflet on paracetamol?
To quote Ringo "Peace and love" (But don't ask for an autograph!)

Just had my second (Pfizer) jab!
It was supposed to be yesterday but the vaccine centre was closed. This time it hurt more, it bled, and I have a swollen bruise the colour of a raincloud. But in myself I feel fine. I'm putting the bruising and pain down to the fact that I hit the exact spot on Monday with a sink corner so it was already damaged.
Next up: flu jab!

queenofthehours - not to worry, surely a bruise that looks like a raincloud portends something Jeff related. ELO sights or sounds must be in your future. Maybe even the full Concerto for a Rainy Day.

the old wisdom will keep you safe in a pandemic - with a tweak or two
a mask a day keeps the Covid at bay
a jab in the arm is worth two weeks quarantine
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by

After hearing a lot about the quest for herd immunity, I think we've been convinced of its elusiveness these past few weeks. Yesterday, I was reminded of these lyrics taken from a Hall and Oates song from way back ("Ennui on the Mountain") that describe my feelings quite nicely. Oh, we know what's good, but we love what's bad. *** Every day we try to get higher, Any way to the dream at the end. *** You and me are just Ponce de Leon-y We're looking for something we ain't never gonna find. (my favorite lines) *** Oh, I don't know if it's high, high or low. But it's round and round and round and round we go! Fun song , but this situation is so sad!

In truth, odd very odd! We kept reverting to masks on the short train ride (half the train didn't) Inside the football stadium concourse (most fans didn't) the pub (there was some rugby match on, no one wore masks) we cut our time short ... I think I am going to need time to decompress
