Thank you lasttrain929 ! Mom will be 88 in a few weeks, and we are planning a cross-country virtual birthday party for her with friends and family from all over the US with birthday cakes and decorations at every location, and gifts for her secretly sent to our house in advance.  That will be so much fun for her!

It's a surprise party though. Shh!   Don't tell anyone!

IHME is a health data outfit that projects how many severe cases each city will have by day through until the end of this wave of the pandemic.
According to them, today is the peak for the USA in terms of # of number of intensive care beds and ventilators required. They project a ramp down over the next 7 weeks.

I hope they are right and this is as bad as it gets. 7 weeks is still a lot more pain to take, though.

My mom is doing well at home with us, thank God!

We found out that my mom's friend who was on the ventilator passed away today . On a happier note, we also got word that two younger people we know in N.O. (my age - mid 50s), have recovered from the virus and are almost back to full health.

I'm so terribly sorry for your losses Timeblue and eloneen. I am happy that your mom is doing well though, eloneen. Her birthday celebrations sound like such a fantastic idea, I hope she has a wonderful 88th birthday! ❤

Buttler, that avatar! We are lucky that Covid-19's mortality is about 1/100 of that of the Black Death, otherwise we would be seeing very different scenes around the world.
