I just really, really love 'Full Moon Fever'. Outside of ELO this is the most listened to work of Jeff Lynne I have in my collection. There's not a bad track on the album and contains all the elements we know and love from the Master.

The original title for Full Moon Fever was Songs From The Garage, and here's the proposed album artwork.

More interesting than what he ended up using.

And "Wildflowers" is #1. Most boring and uninspired of Petty's albums. These "critics"...
I'm totally convinced that out of the big hits of "Full Moon Fever", Jeff Lynne must have written the majority of them, if not almost all of them. He was going through a great composing phase (Wilburys I, Armchair theatre, Orbison, etc...). Meanwhile, Tom Petty was coming of many years of drought in terms of writing great songs. The moment he joins forces with Jeff Lynne he suddenly writes two big hits like "Free Falling" and "I won't back down"? I don't believe it. Even when Jeff is credited as co-author, I suspect it was all him in those songs, and that without him Tom Petty doesn't make the comeback that "Full Moon Fever" meant for him.
By the way, I think "Full Moon Fever" features a few weak songs too. "A face in the crowd" comes to my mind. Flat, dull as hell, no melody, just short phrases more spoken than sung. But there are others.

There a couple of tracks on there that are my very favourites of Toms.

Ah, but each one has his own personal tastes, queenofthehours. For me it was disappointing, but maybe you enjoy it a lot, so don't mind my judgement and go ahead.

I like Tom Petty but I don't own any of his albums. A coworker brought in Wildflowers and i think it's really great! If it's a mediocre Tom Petty album like Helmut83 says then I must go out and buy more Tom Petty.

If you look at my opinions about music on this forum (and I've posted plenty of them) all of them start like that. I never sentence that this or that "IS a mediocre album", as if I owned the truth to something so subjective as music. Like I've said below to queenofthehours, it's all a matter of taste, and the variety when it comes to this is infinite. Time ago a friend of mine lent me "Full Moon Fever" and "Wildflowers". As I recall, I quite liked FMF and had a sovereign bore listening to "Wildflowers", to the point that I only liked the song that gave title to the album and one or two more at best. I returned "Wildflowers" to my friend after just a few listens (and kept FMF). Now honestly I'm surprised to see it's so highly acclaimed. Maybe I should try to get it again and give it another listen to see if there's something I haven't gotten during those first listens and consequently have been missing.

I'm expecting to enjoy it because 'Crawling Back to You' is one of my very favourite Petty songs and I also love 'Honey Bee' but the problem with expecting too much is that you get disappointed if the whole album isn't as exciting as the songs you buy it for. Time ago a friend of mine lent me "Full Moon Fever" and "Wildflowers". As I recall, I quite liked FMF and had a sovereign bore listening to "Wildflowers", to the point that I only liked the song that gave title to the album and one or two more at best. I don't know if I should be ashamed or not but I also own Hard Promises and have only heard it perhaps twice and both times had a sovereign bore. It isn't TP's fault and perhaps it's because HP hasn't got any of the big songs I like on it or perhaps it because it wasn't FMF or perhaps it was the wrong time to hear it - some albums only work if you are in the right frame of mind, the right age or in the right context.
