It doesn't make me want to rush off to John Lewis and start buying, I must say. But the same idea would have worked with Jeff, I bet his first guitar (the one he still has and has spent megabucks upgrading) was a Christmas present

Never liked Reg, arrogant and opinionated and this ad is for me, the worst of the series. There, I've said my piece....

Sorry BSJ i should have explained. A very nice shop in the UK but they have a over sentimental slushy xmas advert every year generally to sell some pap they have decided to push at the time. Normally they get a half known singer to cover a more well known song, it is all very obvious and hugely popular. I'm assuming this is just a great big trailer for Rocket Man (his movie release next year).
What I can't work out apart from having Reginald Dwight associated to john lewis brand what are they actually pushing after all they don't sell Piano's do they?

(I'm still kind of a newbie fan, don't hurt me for not recognizing it if it's an obvious one lol ) I'm just curious for future artistic endeavors of mine, which may or may not involve chickens. smileys-whistling-823718

isn't it basically 'when i was a boy' This is exactly what I thought when I first heard about the ad.
I don't think it was a good idea to bring a star into the John Lewis ads pantheon. Part of the Christmas ads charm was that it was inventive in unusual ways and using Elton seems a bit lazy. This reminds me of when Elton did the music for the Lion King - he became as much a star of the show as Simba, before that I don't think Disney songwriters had a "face" and ever since famous singers have been battling animated animals for top billing. Anyway, I'm digressing.
I don't really have anything against EJ, I quite enjoy his music, but at least he gives the Lewis ads a break from their usual sappy cover version soundtracks. My particular least-liked was the cover of 'Real Love' used in 2014.
But I think my main issue with the ad, however good it may be, is because it reminds me too much of 'WIWAB'. They should have hired Jeff!

I see in tonight's paper Reg is advertising his "farewell tour" UK shows for November and December 2020! Is this a record for advance booking?
