This is totally irrelevant to the thread, but are there any pictures of said guitar? (I'm still kind of a newbie fan, don't hurt me for not recognizing it if it's an obvious one ) I'm just curious for future artistic endeavors of mine, which may or may not involve chickens. There are some pictures of the Elvis guitar he had here but I think Jeffs dad also bought him a guitar he still has now. www.jefflynnesongs.com/firstguitar.htmI'm sure I've seen film of Jeff with the guitar his dad bought him, maybe on one of those documentaries from Bungalow Palace?

I love Elton John's music too, --so much fun to sing! I loved all his glasses when I was a kid, too! He just seemed like a really fun, exuberant person! I had never heard of the retailer John Lewis before. The first thing that comes to mind when I see that name is Congressman John Lewis of Georgia, the distinguished civil rights leader who marched with Dr. King. I just read that he is the last living speaker of those who spoke at the 1963 March on Washington.

I guess I'm in the minority here as I don't like Elton. His tantrums are legendary but I guess most rock stars have them! his early songs are ok (GYBR is immense) but there is something about him that grates with me.

His writing partner certainly doesn't get enough credit, although i'm sure he is crying all the way to the bank.

The problem with EJ now is that time has caught up with him and his voice is shot (like Donald Fagen). He's had to adjust the key and pitch for his voice so low that it's practically subterranean, not the same thing at all. And he really is embarrassingly temperamental too often.

Horacewimp unomusette BSJVery cool, thanks all. I will have to do some research. Jeff Linnie needs his authentic guitar, after all. I think the ad is cool, but I'm not quite sure what it has to do with what the retailer is trying to sell? I also agree that it reminds me of the "When I Was a Boy" video, would have been nice to see them hire Jeff instead.

Hey Jeff, are your people stalking the boards? A clip of Jeff showing off his first guitar just popped up on his official Facebook page. I had actually looked up the documentary out of curiosity about the guitar (Mr. Blue Sky: The Story of Jeff Lynne & ELO) and watched it over the weekend, but what an interesting coincidence! Either way, now I have some visual references of it for drawing purposes.

He's had to adjust the key and pitch for his voice so low that it's practically subterranean, not the same thing at all. And he really is embarrassingly temperamental too often. Unlike many other singers whose voices have changed Elton's problems appear to have stemmed from two distinctive episodes in his career. First of all, he started moving away from his earlier style of singing at the suggestion of producer Thom Bell in the late '70s, and then he was forced to have several nodules removed after the conclusion of his 1986 tour. In the years immediately following what seemed to be a successful procedure, his tone then diction quickly evolved into his current form, which isn't really suited to the material he continues playing - even if most songs have their keys lowered significantly. While I'm certainly no expert, I'd say that a lot of the damage was caused by his continued cocaine habit, as he actually took a few months off from performing and was quite conservative with the songs he did play for a while, including dropping the title track of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road until the late '90s, when it again became a concert staple.
