Jonathan King released a cover version when Margaret Thatcher was forced out. He emphasised the lines "Now I know I can't let Maggie go"

I'm really liking this alternative version of Taking me Back - Jack White adds "Gently" to the song name. Violin, piano, banjo create a very different song than his usual hard rock sound.
compare with the other version

If Van Halen was a country western band, it'd sound like this...

Secret Powers is an interesting power pop band from Montana of all places. sounding like Jellyfish on this one:
sounding like New Pornographers:
sounding like Randy Newman if Don Henley sat in on vocals?
and if you haven't already, check out Lost Radio Man's youtube posts he's clearly a big ELO fan

into the way back machine, this band formed in 1967 and has an Idle Race quality I'd never heard of them, but Thomas Walsh mentioned them when talking about his record collection. So down a rabbit hole I go. I love this song, Spotify introduced me to it a while ago!
I've been in the mood to discover some new music lately, and the Spotify recommendation algorithms have apparently been able to really strike a chord with me this time around--Honeybus, the Blues Magoos, Nazz, Pilot, and the Rubinoos just to name a few, the latter two of which I was lucky enough to find an LP today.
I've also listened to a bit of Cream and the Velvet Underground on my own, and my biggest revelation of late: Sparks.
I don't think I've ever fallen for a band so hard and so fast!!!
Though it's not hard to imagine why, 'cos the Mael brothers are absolutely brilliant! I should've taken the hint sooner, since I've known for a while that there's more than a handful of ELO fans who are also Sparks fans, but better late than never, right?
Maybe because I'd first heard of Sparks from some of the British forumheads here and figured it was another British group that had remained obscure in America, maybe because of their zany sense of humor and witty, whimsical songwriting--but much like Horacewimp initially thought ELO was from the USA, I assumed these guys were British and was surprised to find out that they hail from the same state as me!
Those of you acquainted with Sparks, was it their glam rock era or their new wave era that got you into them? I've found that I enjoy both; the new wave was what initially grabbed me, but the more I listen to their earlier work the more incredible it becomes.
Unfortunately for my vinyl-collecting self, several of their albums seem to be expensive and difficult to track down (maybe "it's just a passin' phase" due to their relative surge in popularity after their recent documentary)... normally I'm very patient about waiting and crate digging through record shops, but I'm about to make a Discogs purchase 'cos I need "Kimono My House" and its lead single NOW...

The Honeybus hit was used in a Nimble bread advert in the early 70s for a few years here, it featured as I remember a woman in a hot air balloon, hence the "She flies like a bird" line.
Sparks are brilliant aren't they! They inadvertently got linked with the glam period in the UK and must have thought "hey, we've cracked it here so we may as well stay"

"Beat the Clock" and "Amateur Hour" have been Sparks favorites of mine so far as well.
Too bad you never got to see them the other year lasttrain929 I hear they're touring in the UK and Europe these next few weeks, and am really hoping they'll come back to the US after that, I hear they put on a great show and are full of energy despite their age!
