My dad when a teen spent a season on a Great Lakes freighter. While he enjoyed being on the lakes, he quickly learned he wasn't cut out for the work. I do believe he got the wanderlust shaken out of him. He was a river rat. Spent his summers sailing and canoeing our local river, the Maumee. Ahh the great Maumee river! I spent lots of time fishing and boating the Maumee up by a little place called Texas, OH. Great times.

Texas, Ohio, just west of Grand Rapids one of the towns we take "river drives" to. This great river starts in Indiana and meanders through Ohio and empties into the Great Lake Erie. There are many great parks on the river with paths for walking and fishing off the banks here in town.

As for Gordon Lightfoot, I like the songs of his that I've heard. Specifically, Sundown and the gorgeous ballad If You Could Read My Mind. That song never fails to remind me of this TV show -

A few months ago I heard Badfinger's "No Matter What" and was immediately hooked; they've quickly become my new favorite band (besides ELO, of course ). Truly a rock 'n roll tragedy, their story... and it's almost as tragic how little I see them mentioned. I used to think that ELO was criminally underrated, but these guys deserve to be the dictionary definition of it! Even with all the internet rabbit-holes I've gone down concerning The Beatles, ELO, etc., and reading comments from others who have an affinity for Beatlesque music, I'd never even heard of Badfinger until they cropped up on my Spotify that day. And I keep asking myself, how the heck did I not know about them?!? Classics like "No Matter What", "Baby Blue", "Day After Day", the McCartney-penned "Come and Get It", "Without You" later popularized (but never improved upon, imo) by others such as Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey... songs that my parents recognize but couldn't tell you the artist... and not a one of them gets any airplay these days, at least not in my area. You'd think Badfinger would be more widely-known if only due to their numerous Beatles connections, though they certainly do have enough merit to stand on their own--I'm hard-pressed to say that even their later 'reunion' albums are anything less than respectable, and their discography contains so many hidden gems... just to name a few: "Perfection", "Andy Norris", and what is quite possibly my favorite track of theirs:
Any other Badfinger fans around here? Is it just my weird corner of the Twilight Zone that's seemingly unaware of them?

Badfinger was a great band. Parthenon is also a big fan. One of the songs on his last album has this lyric: "a Badfinger song kind of touched my soul". and he has a nice cover of Perfection on his Tracks and Treasures album parthenonhuxley.com/music

Yes a very underrated band. Not many people remember they released Without You first.

I loved 'Come And Get It' and although I don't know too many songs by them, I know of their tragic history...

Same here. Theirs is such a sad and enraging story - somewhere, someone is probably still sitting back and profiting from their talent even today.
