it doesn't happen that often but I've noticed a subset of songs I just instantly dislike or make me uncomfortable. I'm not sure if it is key / tempo (i doubt it given the variation) but they irate me so much I often turn the radio off before they finish
Today's winner is the new track by TOTO...to me it is beyond awful, especially when it gets to the chorus. I made it the second chorus but then I just had to give up. ...is this just me who gets this type of reaction?

I wouldn't say it's a particular type of song but there are songs I've instantly disliked, mostly because they are so uninspired and strike me as being written to a formula. I've heard the Toto song a couple of times and it does seem to be that sort of creation, kind of Toto-by-numbers. For the same reason I instantly hated "Baby When You're Gone" by Bryan Adams and Mel C, it's just so ploddy and boring.

I touched upon this in a thread last night but the mere mention of Ed Sheeran has me automatically switching off. How this guy is as big as he is,to me is bewildering, every song is as drippy as the next one he warbles.....

How this guy is as big as he is,to me is bewildering, every song is as drippy as the next one he warbles..... Some of my female students LOVE him! I mean really LOVE him! I don't get it, but I know that just about every generation of "mature" adults has found the musical tastes of the younger generation mystifying at times. Oh well, they can have him!

I will pile on top too and say that Ed has no musical appeal (for me), nor could I describe him as a sexy man.
But (having played alongside JL at the 2015 Grammys) his connections are impeccable.......

every song is as drippy as the next one he warbles..... I listened to one of his songs. Just the one time because of JL. I can't remember too well what it was like but drippy to the best of recollection seems like the right word.

I find "Shape of You" extraordinarily tacky...
Just sayin.'

Just hearing these words would make me turn off the radio.

I find "Shape of You" extraordinarily tacky... Just sayin.' Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. It's disgusting, and from a musical point of view it's as cheap as they come. The fact that that song went to be a world-wide hit is the ultimate proof that these days the ones who make it are not the talented artists but the ones whom the musical industry pulls down our throats.

Heck, if there's a free spot I'd like to be in the Front Office (why not president?). He was supposed to be the next big thing in the British musical landscape, but other than "Thinking out loud" all of his stuff is garbage to me. Again, forget the talent; if he is "sellable" the musical industry will pull anything down our throats. Shame on "the market" (which ultimately is people listening to music) for not having enough independent criteria to realize when they are selling them shit.

Do you guys have more specifications about "The new song by TOTO" (unless it's called that way)?

Just the mention of Ed Sheeran's name makes me feel intolerably bored. In fact all the current chart music played on the radio today I instantly dislike but Ed is at the top.
The only way I'll ever love the music of today's fashion will be either if I'm drunk or in 35 years time when music will be even worse.
I'm not sure I've instantly disliked any song, well I can't remember one for the moment, but I tend to dislike most songs after hearing them for the 1,000th time without choice. Familiarity breeds contempt indeed.

One of the many things which annoy me about E. Sheeran is the way he produces loads of different versions of a song, with different guest artists for example, so he can make even more money. I'm sure he's a nice person though - I do try to remember this about artists whose music annoys me, such as Bruce Springsteen, they probably give lots of money to charity and help old ladies across the road.

With Ed being a Yorkshire lad, I should be singing his praises and shouting from the rooftops but his domination of the UK charts with multiple recordings etc makes me just abhor him and his cynical approach to the industry.

Do you guys have more specifications about "The new song by TOTO" (unless it's called that way)? Ive looked it up so i don;t have to hear it again ... I think it is called Spanish Sea ... it is basically a re-write of that vile crap Africa (a song I also detested ...maybe that is it). When it steps up to the chorus it actually makes me bristle maybe because he doesn't quite get to the note and not in a charming way. I have already spent too much time thinking about it I hope I never hear it again. In the acts that you dislike category ... Sam Smith, Adele and the million ex-performing academy/theatre school graduates whose output purports to be authentic but are actually cold-eyed programmed bilge.....there I feel better now
