I have no words, for how much i will miss him! Was a fan since 1988 and i think there hasn't been one day, i wasn't listening to at least one of his songs. His death came so sudden and way too early, that makes me even more sad. Tom and Jeff are the greatest for me!
RIP

I'm absolutely devastated. When I heard on the radio last night that Tom was ill I hoped for the best but prepared for the worst and the worst did happen . I can only hope that it was quick and he wasn't in any pain. It's both sad and comforting to think that he passed the same way as Roy - suddenly while still on the top of his game.
I can't help but think of the sadness that Tom's family is going through, what Mike and the rest of the band must feel and how Jeff must feel.
I don't think Jeff has commented yet. Even though you'd imagine he'd be the first to pay tribute I'm not in the least surprised that he is taking his time. He must be utterly heartbroken. Bob's tribute was extremely touching. Maybe I don't know Bob well enough but I was surprised he responded so fast and with such lovely, warm words. I'm sure I read that Jeff said he and Tom hadn't seen Bob since the Wilbury days. I admire Bob all the more now.
The tributes people have been giving for Tom have all been wonderful and so lovely. People do this whenever someone special dies but there seems to be something different about those given for Tom. They are a little more tender and personal I think, more honest and truthful; from the heart. When his passing was mentioned on the news on radio or TV even the presenters seemed to have their own love for Tom. He seems to have touched so many people's lives in a meaningful way.
It was such a terrible shock to wake up to this morning. I still don't and can't believe it. I had to have a cry but then tried to focus on all the joy Tom had given us and will continue to give us. Just because Roy and George are no longer with us do we think of them any less? Do we love their music any less? Do we love THEM any less? No. If anything we appreciate them more and so it shall be with Tom. He's not gone far and wherever he is at this moment he's sure to have a guitar in one hand and a uke in the other and is on the look out for Nelson and Lefty for a jamming session.
Tom was surely the coolest man on the planet. Without Tom I know for certain I wouldn't have found Jeff because Tom was my way to Mr Lynne. I loved Tom long before I loved Jeff through hearing 'Free Fallin'', 'Learning to Fly' and this (non-Lynne) gem on the radio -
RIP Tom, we all love you.

Short statement from Jeff, so far. But sources in the know tell me a longer tribute is coming...
"Tom Petty was the coolest guy I ever knew."-Jeff Lynne

It might be inappropriate to mention BUT-
Here in Oz the usual '30 second biogs' are getting airtime on the various tv news services. Virtually all of them show some footage of JL; few if any mention him. Golden clunker award goes to the ABC (national broadcaster) who had a news item (prepared by JJJ, the national rock radio station) which managed to mention all the Wilbs by name EXCEPT JL; all the while showing footage of "End of the Line" behind.....and then footage of JL, TP and Joe Walsh at the "Walk of Fame" ceremony.
Annoying; and it reminds me of the 90s when JL seemed to be 'Mr Invisible'; in spite of being a major force in so much top-notch music.

It's always appropriate to be annoyed by the shit treatment our Jeffy gets from the media.

What I meant was...
JL must be feeling lonely.
But shit happens everyday; and the older you get, the deeper the pile of shit gets.....

Jeff needs to eat all his veggies, get all his zzzz's and exercise (but not too strenuous). No smoking, no drinking, lot's of kale and wrap him in bubble wrap at all times from now on. He's too precious to risk anything happening to him!!!

Short statement from Jeff, so far. But sources in the know tell me a longer tribute is coming... "Tom Petty was the coolest guy I ever knew."-Jeff Lynne It's short, to the point, and utterly correct. I imagine that Jeff wants to say more than words could ever express.
One thought that entered my head yesterday, it's a stupid thought I know but here it is - Losing Tom is going to have hit Jeff hard and we all know how Jeff can be a bit lacking in confidence at times. Might Jeff be so affected that he goes back to being the studio recluse again? Will he be shocked into not performing again? I told you the thought was silly but it did cross my mind for a split second in the early morning. I hope it doesn't happen. I know Jeff is stronger than we know.
Speaking of Jeff, a lot of people reporting on Tom's passing mention Jeff last in the list of Wilburys. I'm sure Jeff doesn't mind this at all but we do! However when it's Bob, Roy and George that get named first being fourth or fifth on the list is a great honour.
