Birth Certificate: The absence of a middle name on his birth cert is not an indication that he doesn't have one; since the BDM info is filled in shortly after birth at the hospital; many couples have not finalised the middle name (often a MAJOR bunfight between in-laws, grandparents, favourite uncles etc) at that stage. 'Official' naming comes later (at least for Christians) at the christening. It is no coincidence that both JL and RW have no middle name on their BDM paperwork, it is quite common.

Hats off to Timeblue for coming up with "Laredo"

It's also possible that JL came up with the L when pressed by 'Merican officials to conform with their forms.... in which case it stands for "leave off!".
