So you are telling me you referred to Sir James Paul Freaking McCartney, Genius, in such a way... on purpose? I'm afraid I'll have to call G'mork to teach you how to spell his name properly... And hey, didn't you say you were a big Beatles' fan? The two headed beast is more then ready to help our buddy. Run away while you still have time!!! Grrrrr........
Well that escalated quickly... :/

I agree about George Harrison having the best solo career out of the 4 Beatles. But while in the Beatles, in my opinion Paul McCartney's work was extraordinary and by far the best one. I think from "Revolver" on it was him who carried the weight of the Beatles over his shoulders and only thanks to him the Beatles were able to keep those great standars of quality.
Also, you might be aware that the Lennon-McCartney songwriting process was such in practice only during the first albums of the Beatles. Later on they started to write songs in a completely separate way, almost like they were solo artists.

Well that escalated quickly... :/ Shooting at sacred cows is a dangerous activity when there are monks and shepherds in the surroundings.

I'm not listening to the sample, going to wait for the whole thing. Sounds good though from the comments here.
Mr Musette is a HUGE fan of Alice Cooper - showed him the Eleanor Rigby clip and we agreed it sounded a bit like his voice was being played through Autotune or something. Plus he's wearing the same specs as Mr Musette (from Poundland- hargh!)
Oh, and GRRRR!!!

Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, I wonder how in the hell can you forget " Ringo Rama" and " Ringo 5.1: The Surround Collection"? Oh My...

I'm going to wait and listen to the full thing as well. Just a sample of Jeff is not enough!

First off, I must say that I'm not much enamoured of the idea of solicited covers of Macca classics when the originals are more than perfect enough. It's Jeff's track alone that really interests me.
I succumbed to temptation and jumped straight to 'Junk' (just catching the end of Willie Nelson's 'Yesterday' which, for such a fine artist and song, I found rather plodding). You can immediately tell that 'Junk' is all Jeff. There's a certain sound to the production that's not heard on any of the album's other tracks I've hear so far. It certainly sounds as if Jeff plays all the instruments himself. The piano has Bungalow Palace tone to it I think.
Jeff sings it as if he's written it. It might be because I'm incredibly biased but Jeff's version beats Paul's totally. No, hang on, Paul's own version is pretty special so I'll change that to Jeff's cover being as good as Paul's own. It's so beautiful and sad at the same time. It's just a shame it's so short.
Brian Wilson's 'Wanderlust' is a very good track too, he makes it his own. It's not as good as Paul's but it makes a nice change from the regular version.
I haven't heard the whole album yet but Jamie Cullum's 'Every Night' is surprisingly very good indeed and Paul Rodgers does 'Let Me Roll it' as much justice as Jeff does 'Junk'.

"Yesterday" is really awful. This is the best "Yesterday" cover I've heard so far:
Regarding the album, this is my fav cover atm:

Just bought "Junk" off iTunes. I wasn't all that familiar with the Macca original, but I think it's a fine little pop song. Great bass work by Mr. Lynne!

To me, the highlights are:
Junior's Farm - Steve Miller. Wanderlust - Brian Wilson. Bluebird - Corinne Bailey Rae. I was surprised with this one. Had never even heard of her, yet this is one of the best on the album. Junk - Jeff Lynne. Great production, very melancholy, nice vocals. Too bad it's so short...but still nice. Helen Wheels - Def Leppard.
The whole first disc is solid overall, but the second disc is pretty underwhelming...I guess Billy Joel, Airborne Toxic Event, and that reggae version of Come and Get It are interesting enough. Then there are the cringe-worthy covers of Bob Dylan, Chrissie Hynde, and Ronnie Spector - the latter of which is by far the worst on the album. At least it's a bonus track.
