Stop everything - the world is spinning too fast! I've set foot into a seismic few months personally and I thought I'd share... After much planning and preparation, I've finally retired and if that weren't enough for me, I reach the age of sixty at the end of this week. I'd always wanted to retire in my fifties and I've just about made it by the length of a birthday cake candle. To celebrate this audacious 'double' my wife and I will next week embark on a six week touring holiday in the States, starting with a visit to friends in Minneapolis and ending up in Los Angeles. We will visit eleven states, some for the first time and will probably put the better part of 6000 miles on the clock of a hire car. All of this means that my now daily visits to the forum will be far less frequent for a while and I'm particularly saddened by the thought of missing the odd poll vote now and again! I will try and see what you're all discussing when I can and I will certainly populate this particular page with a few photos upon my return. In the meantime I wish you all well and I'll be back with regular-ish postings again when I am forced to embrace the joys of a British autumn

Happy retirement! I'm 60 next and although I'm not retiring myself I'm hoping to slow down a bit next year. Have a good holiday and take some pics.

Have a wonderful trip soonerorlater ! Which 11 states will you visit? Congratulations on your retirement! I was planning on retiring in two years at age 60, but I started a new job last week. The new job (coaching and supporting new teachers) seems like it will be more exciting and less stressful than my previous job (teaching students and leading a department at a high school) so I may have a few more years left in me to help guide the next generation of teachers and fatten up my pension.

Just got back from a three night trip to New York, it was to celebrate my recent large number birthday. We had a great time including getting upgraded on both flights. I had done an itinerary before we left and managed to stick to most of it including, Shopping , Times Square, Bryant Park which had on a Christmas market and skating ring, open top bus tour, ground zero, went up One World Trade Center, viewed Statue of Liberty from a far we ran out of time for a boat trip, 9/11 Memorial Museum, Grand Central Station, Macy’s, Empire State Building unfortunately that day was low cloud so even though we went up it we didn’t see anything, Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO, Central Park, Madame Tussaud’s, Intrepid Air sea museum, High Line walk and Rockefeller Center. Times Square Empire State Chrysler Building Flat Iron One World Trade Centre (Freedom Tower) Ground Zero Memorial View from trade center Grand Central View from Empire State Building!! Brooklyn Bridge DUMBO Area and Manhattan Bridge Central Park
Intrepid Museum High line walk
