I'd totally forgotten that this thread existed when I started my soundcloud thread. Sorry about that! But hey, I have a new song up on mine. Sort of a lonely sounding/lost among the stars kinda thing called "Broken Signals". I used the slow Hip-Hop style setting, slowed the temp way down, played some nice chords, and added a Sine Synth with some distortion to give it the sound of some lost satellite or telephone signals. On top of that, I added a little bit of melodic percussion, then on Audacity I mixed in a few samples of an automated telephone operator. I actually kinda like this one, even though it's a bit off-kilter. Check it out! soundcloud.com/keyboardgarbage/broken-signalsIt’s great Chippa I’m a big OMD fan and it reminds me of some of their experimental songs and b sides, particularly with the sampling.

I'm working with Grroosss in an ELO/70's inspired band. We've got a few licks of lyrics & melody, but not a lot together yet. Anybody have any tips in this area? They'd be greatly appreciated. (We're both amateurs, haha).

(We're both amateurs, haha). Good for you! I have absolutely no musical skill or training and I was in a band once! It's true! We did pretty well for a while and I think I did pretty well in spite of my lack of talent and skill. Luckily there were some real musicians in the band. My advice would be "Have fun!" But let's see what the experts say...

But let's see what the experts say... We play in band & orchestra, but neither of us play anything like guitar or piano that are typically used to write out chords and compose music. Unfortunately the only experience I have in composing is my freshman band theory class, which I don't remember much of... I wonder how Jeff wrote such masterpieces without being able to read music. I read two clefs and struggle putting chord progressions and such together.

And what a coup, to secure such fantastic guest star for the video - it must have taken ages having to stop and start all the time to let him in and out. Awesome.

I had a good laugh! It's nice to see there is a real Andy, not a fabrication of Ted's twisted mind. By the way, Andy. Are you eloandy?

Thanks to Mark, (Ted Blight) for helping bring this offering to the table. LOL, you could also have called it Andy & Ted's Excellent Adventure well done! We never thought of that. We had a few titles. A couple Ted thought of were ‘Latitude 53 north’ and ‘Andy’s Trousers’. We thought it’d be quite good for Ted and Nelly to ‘get it on’.

tedblight and eloandy , excellent work! I really enjoyed the new tune, it's very poppy, upbeat and flows well. Strong chorus too. Well done. The video was good as well. Who knew Tedblight could grow such an afro? Here's to more original stuff by you, guys.

I've finished work on another song. This one, called Staxx of Soul, is a little tribute to the great R&B and soul music of the past, particularly that of Stax Records in Memphis. I got into a nice groove with a soul style setting, and slowed down the tempo just a bit. Played some basic chords(G,A7,C), and played a brass section with block harmony added to fatten it up a bit. On top of that, I played some drawbar organ-which is fast becoming my favorite instrument of choice on the keyboard- added a few soulful vocal samples buried in the final mix, and layered a loop of vinyl record surface noise playing underneath to give it that vintage sound. I'm not 100% happy with the finished product, but I like the fact that it's a little bit imperfect. Have a listen! soundcloud.com/keyboardgarbage/staxx-of-soul

Just a suggestion.
