I'm not really distressed about it. It's actually kind of funny. It gives us something harmless to spar about, since teenagers like to challenge whatever their parents think is cool, anyway! I'm sure he'll surprise me with something major at some point--they always do-- but since I work with adolescents, I'm really not as stressed as some parents of teenagers seem to be.
I'll tolerate his disdain for ELO, but I won't let him know that it's no big deal!

Don't worry, eloneen . Sometimes these things take time. Growing up, my second brother was a big fan of the band XTC. I didn't get it, just didn't think their music was that good. So naturally I would wind him up by disparaging them. Mainly to annoy him, but also because I couldn't see their appeal. Many years later, XTC must have dramatically improved their output because I started listening to them myself. Even bought a couple of their albums on cassette (aye, it were all cassettes in them days). Shamefacedly confessed this to Brother, who was delighted and promptly started compiling tapes of their songs, for me. And I still like a bit of XTC, to this day. So you see, tastes can change. There's every chance that one day your son will have a (Long Black) Road to Damascus conversion and come to realise how great ELO are. When I was 15 the thought that I'd be as obsessed with ELO as I am would have been laughable. Even the thought of listening to (never mind enjoying) one ELO song or even thinking of Jeff Lynne favourably would have been unimaginable.
I can still remember how sick and cringey the thought made me feel.
So funny you say that- When my son hears ELO, he often says something about them being "so cringe." It's kind of the family joke that I love ELO, his dad and grandma don't really mind them (in moderation), and my son just can't stand them. His dad may be coming around though... I'm beginning to see the signs... The rest of the family thinks it's pretty funny, too. My brothers jokingly tell my husband to not let me brainwash him, that it's not one of the requirements of being a good husband, etc. One sister-in-law enjoys my enthusiasm for ELO, because she loves U2 and understands the fan thing. The funny thing is that her husband, my brother (who doesn't want my husband to get ELO- brainwashed), surprised her recently with U2 concert tickets and drove several hours to get to the concert...Hmm, who's brainwashed?

Well this is surely looking ahead into 2018 at least. But if/when they tour USA I'm up for Kansas City. Or Fayetteville depending on how intimate they go. The Walton Arts Center hosts returning rock acts there sometimes. Also - Houston! Got a bro there who could likely get backstage passes so - fingers crossed on that!
