I am not going to be the one to reveal the identity of the person who, in his day, stated what follows and published openly through a social network of English-speaking ELO fans.
I hoped and still hope that one day he will carry out what he promised or proposed, and although I doubted it when I discovered his writing and even today I still doubt it, there is always that small hope that, at some point it may come true and he decides to "Pull the blanket" ....
// "The anniversary is a failure. So far not much of interest has materialized. Fortunately here I am to help. For the last twenty years, I collected everything I could get my hands on related to ELO. Most of it was ordinary stuff, but I have a lot of unreleased demos and alternate mixes that are not bootlegged. I'm going to wait to see what they announce for the anniversary. If there's nothing interesting, I'll leak everything I collected... about 70 or so rare tracks. Either way, the "eloheads" will get what they've been waiting for for years." //
There is a very small minority of ELO/JEFF fans who own unreleased and certainly brilliant material, and I say this knowingly, that they use for strictly "personal" use... Unbelievable but true. And they can't even brag about it because they would give themselves and others away with whom they exchange these authentic musical jewels or rarities, in the strictest sense of the word. Meanwhile, life goes by, fans diminish and this material remains in an exclusive underworld out of the spotlight, and what is worse, out of the reach of the only ones who could value it and enjoy it as it deserves... the true fans.
I don't know where is the benefit of hiding this musical wealth that is a treasure for everyone, every day more and more diminished by age and even more now that the ELO project is over after a failed 50th Anniversary as this fan says. I suppose that those who possess material of these characteristics will be subordinated to others because of commitments that oblige them both to keep their secret safe. Perhaps they believe that it will be revalued over time and they can get a significant monetary return over the years, which I doubt very much, because every year that passes there are fewer who will bet on getting it and therefore, far from achieving that goal, it will not only lose its value, but it will totally lose its interest.
Someone had to say (and I apologize for this), that this, although lawful, is neither ethical nor moral. As affected, I feel that there are those who are taking advantage, maybe not economically, of something that, nowadays, does not belong to them, since it is patrimony, first of all of JEFF LYNNE and if he wants, of the rest of the fans, but without ignoring any of them.
I imagine whoever wrote that proposal at the beginning of this article, wanting to boast to the fans of what he has "in property and exclusivity", or if that was not his intention, receiving the scolding of those who got him the pass to access the club of that privileged elite trying to make him desist from his intentions, thus avoiding that someone destroys his expensive personal musical empires. And, there ended his idea of sharing and giving happiness to those who and as he himself said were: "the eloheads will get what they have been waiting for for years".
I'm sorry that so much material goes unheard, untapped, unappreciated, unvalued, unknown to those who need it most. I am sorry that it is just lost, without being disseminated, without being known. It is not going to be edited at this point. That's for sure. But if we fans dispute it among ourselves, what can we expect from those who could make it available to us, even through an official source on the Internet and for free, because it is now losing its value? Honestly, I expect more from a fan like this one at the beginning than from the band's official archivists, if they exist nowadays. Who benefits from this sub-catalog?
If there was a little dignity and interest on the part of those who are guarding the interests of this band that already fulfilled its 50 YEARS of career, they could be administering all this material from their official website even if it was one track per month and for free in order to keep the flame burning. They are audios that maybe for them mean nothing, but for us fans, they are "ELO HISTORY" (with capital letters). I confess to having had the privilege of feasting my ears on some of what I'm talking about and being more than surprised. I am raging with grief at the thought of such beauty being lost over time. Unfortunately I don't have archives of any of it to show for it.
Personally, I would like to be able to "pull that blanket" and uncover that "Ark of the Covenant" without harm to anyone and for the good of all, but it must be recognized that, for those who own it, it must not be easy to do so when dealing with sensitive copyrighted material that may compromise more than just their friendships...
Even so, I'm still waiting in case someone, someday, dares to "pull the blanket"....
