But you can do it!... ...no, wait a second... you can't do it, not on your own. I meant that you can do it as long as you have me on your side, otherwise there's no way you'll ever make it, so don't waste time on your personal efforts. That goes for you among others, Uno.

There it is! The Colonel Tom Parker management style! (He managed poor Elvis) Except you don't push the pills!

1) So Uno is trying something on her own, BSJ? Why do all the artists that play with me then run away and start making things on their own as soon as they can? Am I not a nice mate? Huh? Am I not? Who says I am not? 2) I don't know how did I do it so quickly, probably because it was so standard and basic, and so short. I made a point to make only a few takes and not go mad over details as the whole point was having a laugh anyway. And the drums are fake, I did them with a software called "Band-in-a-box". 3) I was curious to see how you reacted, because the funny thing here is that you were saying that the worst crap you could imagine is a song with those lyrics and with one of the standard rock n' roll "chords + melody" patterns, then I did it with those exact lyrics and as standard as possible, and then you found yourself you couldn't say it was garbage without risking offending me, haha lol. Huge . Thanks for the praises, but hey, you were supposed to hate it! 4) And how was the generic rock n roll tune you had in mind? Could you record the singing, then send it to me? I could figure out the chords and then we would know what you were talking about... 1. I'm so not doing something on my own. I just proved you can produce a workable r&r lyric in super fast time. It's you that made a song out of it, cos not only are you a proper mate, you have actual song making skills *nods* 2. You're too modest But if it did come that easily I reckon there's a career in it for you somewhere, probably Jeff and Bob Seger will be your best customers 3. Sorry to thwart your plans, but I loved it because it made me laugh so much, and because it was touching that you produced all that so quickly just to entertain us. It's personal and it's fab. And also I knew you weren't taking it seriously, unlike the mass of annoying r&r'rs who actually think they're coming up with something new. 4. Ha! You won't trick me into singing that easily, I'll try to think up a song along the same lines.

You won't trick me into singing that easily, I'll try to think up a song along the same lines. I only need excuses to try to make music, as I love it, but this song was hyper easy. It has the classic 12 bar blues structure and then at the end I added a little middle eight ("right on the dance floor"), so it couldn't have come out easier. Don't think that any other song you give me would be ready in 40 minutes. Now, the next time Jeff goes over to your place please tell him that you know a guy who is an amazing producer and that can do his work while he does nothing, charge as Jeff Lynne, then share half of the money and the public credit goes to him. 4. No, I want to know the song that was sounding in your head! I mean, you can change the lyrics if you want, but show me the melody, the one you were imagining while writing those lyrics. * looks up to her and tugs at her dress* Please, please, pleeeeease... As for your intricate lyrics, let the speculations begin: do they mask a warning against war, a critic about how the capitalist system materializes the souls of people or an ellyptical allusion to the perils of brainwashing TV?

Ahh, can't tell when Jeff will be here next, maybe he's here right now *mysterious wink* He does love to get hands on though, BSJ will back me up on this, so he'll be wanting to put his special stamp on this masterpiece personally. I'm sure he'd appreciate your views though (and then ignore them, like he did with all his other bandmates ) I can't think of a proper dreadful r&r song to illustrate what I had in mind when those mindblowing lyrics came to me. The best I can do is the first five lines of this. I will warn you not to listen to it all, your may not come out of it entirely sane... You have been warned...the first five lines only... Edit: As for the meaning of the lyrics - yes. And no. And maybe Horace! What we need is a villainous, moustache twirling smiley, it would go so well here...

Uno, that's awful! I have no choice but to agree with you about that. You didn't even need to tell me not to go beyond the first five lines, I wouldn't have done it either way...
If that's the kind of easy song you were talking about, I totally agree. However, Bob Seger's "Old time Rock n Roll" sounds much better to me than this one.
PS: even when you illustrated me succesfully about the kind of song you were thinking about, I'm still curious about how was the exact song you had imagined with those lyrics. Yes, you won't get rid of me so easily.

Helmut - I hate to be awkward (no I don't, and you know it, hargh!) but my extremely fantabulous lyrics were just to illustrate my pet hate of the formula of two lines the same, one or two lines slightly different but meaning the same thing, then the same line again. Heard a million billion times in old time r&r songs but which I simply can't think of an example of right now. Usually delivered with a smug face, like it's something entirely new, which you expressed so well in your version Horace - You never fail us! Love it to bits!

1. Hollywood Nights – I like how this one starts straight away – too many songs take far too long to get going. Love the drums, the bass too. Some piano here as well, a nice touch. Nice and fast. 2. Still The Same – Nice opening guitar and drum into. Like the last track, it’s great that it goes straight into the song without messing about. I like the melody. I’m hearing some Jeff Lynne here with the tune and backing vocals. Love the piano.
3. Old Time Rock & Roll – This one’s very 70s but excellent all the same.
4. Till It Shines – This was previously the only Seger track I knew. I love it.
5. Feel Like A Number – Another fast one. I’m enjoying how this album keeps chugging along nicely. Great piano and guitar.
6. Ain't Got No Money – Great guitar at the start. Nice and loud.
7. We've Got Tonite – I’ve hear this song before. Is it Bob’s or is he covering it? Sounds good here.
8. Brave Strangers – Another good fast tune. Love the drums.
9. The Famous Final Scene – Nice final track. Not as rocky as the previous track but makes a nice variation to the end of the LP.
I really like this album. All the songs were strong and upbeat. Great energy on an LP is rare. It reminded me of Joe Cocker for some reason.

I really enjoyed the review qoth. All songs by Bob Seger except for "Ain't Got No Money" and "Old Time Rock and Roll". Regarding "Old Time Rock and Roll" Seger said it was a huge mistake for him not take any or all of the writing credit on it. He basically took someone's idea and ran with it, and then gave the guy the full writing credit for it. Jim

I agree with Jim, great review queenofthehours! Interesting that it brought Joe Cocker to mind for you, now you've said it I can imagine him singing nearly all of those songs and making them his own. This is why this thread is such fun, other peoples' views can make you look at an old favourite from a different angle

I love Joe Cocker but his voice is a bit rough. Bob seems to be a smoother version of Joe.
