They've snappy comebacks that leave people dead in their wake. I don't know what Katie said to this despicable person.
He has a "job" working with horses. And being around others like him will help the adjustment when he will need to leave home.

Good on them with the snappy comebacks, people can be stupidly rude about anyone who doesn't look normal. I saw a programme once about facial disfigurement, lots of the sufferers said that strangers would come right up to them, have a good stare or even a poke and say "What's wrong with your face then?" or "You shouldn't come out in public looking like that". You'd have to have an arsenal of cutting replies or you'd just go under Having a job with horses must be a lifeline for Mike and his family, for him to feel he can succeed at something and for them to have some hope for his future. Doesn't matter what kind of kids you have though, you always worry about them in some way or other. I expect our parents would disapprove of half the stuff we get up to ourselves.... (except for Dave's, the man is a LEGEND! )

Huge lifeline for Joe and Katie's sanity. He's out of the house for the afternoon.

Yup, essential regeneration space for them. And for Mike too, I bet. We all need our "me" time

I'm not jesting when I say...."these conversations really deserve being on this thread"!! When I read this it does not feed my restoration for humanity. People can really be complete idiots. My child has ADHD (as do I....explains why I'm a visual artist and musician) and asbergers syndrome. I had a TEACHER! Yes a teacher ask me "can you give him medication for his autism"mmmmmm!!!! I also had one complete "ar**h*** TELL ME "maybe you need to beat him more" which I replied "maybe I should stamp on your throat 6 or maybe 7 times for your tacklessness"? Needless to say the conversation "dissolved" instantly. And I will repleat myself again..."Is it just me...or is everything just s**t"?

JLN, as I see it, you did well in answering like that to that dick. However, let me friendly recommend you not to get so easily exasperated against cases like that teacher because that's not necessarily bad intention or lack of respect, it may be just sheer ignorance.
I mean, if you don't happen to have any acquaintance with aspergers, autism or any special needs, you may know very little about the subject. I myself am a complete ignorant on the matter just because I only came accross people with those needs occasionally, and I could well ask a question which may sound silly or obvious to a father, but not meaning to be an asshole or disrespectful, just because I don't know the answer and want to know more.
Completely different are the cases like the guy who said you should beat him or like BSJ's relative case who was said she should let the kid at home. Those guys are complete assholes because there is bad intention and lack of respect there and they should be sent to hell like you did.

Yes, what's with this idea that a good beating is the answer to everything? That's not an innocent mistake, that's just reacting with violence to something you don't understand. I agree with Helmut, jefflynnenut's reply was the only reasonable one, and rather polite in the circumstances.

On a lighter note!!! I bought myself 3 new albums today. The very best of "The Alan Parsons Project" The Beach Boys "Pet sounds" and The best of "Jackson Brown. 3 lil Gems....Played them in the car home and got in to hear my 10 year old singing Katy Perry Karaoke. While very cute and I love to hear her warble on to this trash..........whats this thread called again?

The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" was probably the biggest musical disappointment I've had. Throughout the years I heard over and over about it as being a masterpiece, one of the best albums ever made, #2 in Rolling Stones best 500 albums, on par with the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper, etc... One day I said "I have to know what the fuss is about" and gave it a whole listen. Didn't like it. I thought "maybe because it was the first time". Listened to it several times more and there's no way, I never liked it at all and never got why it is so highly rated. In fact, the only song I like from there is "Sloop John B", which happens to be a cover.
I like some things the Beach Boys did, but definitely not that album.

Trust me bro. Get Dennis Wilsons album "Pacific Ocean Blue" and "the bamboo sessions" '77. These two albums are farrrrr superior to anything and I mean anything that the Beach Boys or Brian Wilson ever released. I know that this is a bold statement BUT! I truly stand by it. Pacific is one of the most beautifully produced and its an emotional roller coaster! Again another "desert island disk" for me.....

Pet Sounds - same happened to us, we bought it on the strength of all the rave reviews, played it and just looked at each other, waiting to find out what all the fuss was about.
It usually seems to be a favourite of musicians because of the way the songs are cleverly constructed. Maybe we're just too used to hearing the hits off it to be bowled over. Personally I'd prefer Out of the Blue or Eldorado any day.

2) Pollution/desertification/global warming: I have to agree with you on this one, Buttler. This tendency is only accelerating and it is very worring. I love cold weather (well, not the poles' weather of course) and I hate the heat, and during the last winters we barely had a couple of cold days in Buenos Aires, while summers have turned into living hell, with temperatures that (I can remember) were very uncommon only 20 years ago. Last December was the hottest month ever in BA since there are temperature registers. As long as China keeps on polluting like they do, we are doomed. And another worrying thing is how the deserts are growing each time bigger. 2014 Officially Hottest Year On RecordWhat's particularly striking is that 2014 was a record hot year even without a major El Nino...

I read this thread with dread (!!!) However, as long as I have conversations with my daughter( who is a University student)like the following one: " Dad?" " Yes sweetheart" "Is the Dalai Lama a building in India?" "No, I think you're thinking of the Taj Mahal" "No the Taj Mahal is an Indian Takeaway down the road" I will have to agree that everything (esp the uk education system) is complete and utter utter UTTER S**T! (was funny when she said it tho')
