Wow thanks ted b! Yes it was a great crowd- and our first show as a band. The crowd energy makes soo much difference. Hey I saw your album and the artwork is killer! I've got to hear this album!!! Did you use the Kiumu mix where you sang part of it? Thanks, I'm really pleased with it. Yeah my Kuiama has my vocals on it. I also do the Prologue on Twilight! I'm working on my next track now, but it's very slow as time and energy is at a premium. I have a great idea for a video too. Hope I can pull it off!!!!

nickheynes, great cover, very freshly sounding! I knew I shouldn't have allowed you to escape from me so easily that time! Did you play bass? What about the drums?

Lol thanks helmut.all the sounds were played by me on my mox6 keyboard.so drums first .then bass .lead guitar.trumpet .saxes.organ and percussion. I dont find the mox particularly user friendly.Ive had it for about 3 years and this is my first attempt at a full song.

FWIW @secretmessenger - I think the bits where you don't try to emulate ELO - where your own unique sound (can't quite describe or categorise it - but you do have one) are the best. Much as we all love that ELO sound, it's literally pointless trying to copy it on an ELO song. As for the 'channel hopping' guitar - I would suggest less is more. I would definitely say the same about One Summer Dream too.
It's really hard not to emulate JL when singing his songs; but I would encourage you to try - as you obviously have a unique 'sound' to use.
Thank you for sharing - looking forward to more.

Babyzoomer,
You keep using that word "emulate". It infers a bit more than "imitate", which you may know, but I would hope not. Emulate: to match or surpass (a person or achievement), typically by imitation. "lesser men trying to emulate his greatness, (Jeff in this case)"
It's an easy shot at anyone covering anything. You might as well say, "don't try to sound like Bach when you play Bach." Even if you've never heard the writer perform, some of his nuances are going to come through as you sing the melody. So whether a person tries to sing just like the writer, or not at all like him, some imitation is going to happen. Granted, when I was 15 years old and discovered that I could actually sing and play an ELO song on guitar, I tried to sing "just like Jeff". It's just how most beginning artists do until they find their voice. But when I cover one nowadays it's because a friend requested it, or maybe a song just speaks to me and it's fun to share that expression with a few friends . But- believe me- it's strictly a homage to Jeff or anyone else I would take the time to cover. I appreciate that you acknowledged that I do have my own style. But if it sounds too much like Jeff for you please feel free to enjoy other people's music- there's a lot of it out there! Have you yourself ever tried to sing an ELO song? Dollars to donuts you're gonna sound a bit like them on there somewhere. Having been a fan for so long, I'll admit some of that is gonna bleed through. Again, if it's too much for you... Don't know what you mean by "channel hopping" (sounds like maybe an Aussie term? 😎). Been playing guitar 40 years and never heard it used. I gather it's something to do with my guitar style and I won't likely back down on it anytime soon soo... So I really think you meant to mean well with your advice etc. I'm actually glad you took the time to critique, although I wasn't really putting it out there for that. I know it's an open forum so one opens oneself up to unsolicited advice. But the beauty of it is that the artist can then respond on even ground. Cheers! ROBIN If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended— That you have but slumbered here While these visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme, No more yielding but a dream, Gentles, do not reprehend. If you pardon, we will mend. And, as I am an honest Puck, If we have unearnèd luck Now to ’scape the serpent’s tongue, We will make amends ere long. Else the Puck a liar call. So good night unto you all. Give me your hands if we be friends, And Robin shall restore amends. Exit
