I love 'One Summer Dream' so much. It's so lovely. I often have to hear it more than once, if not on repeat for an hour.

Amazing version on the Zoom live dvd. The piano coda from Richard is sublime.

(Bump).
This song is massively enhanced by the mystery female vocals, hauntingly repeating the song title, sometimes in sync with JL, sometimes slightly separated. It would be a lesser song without them.

One Summer Dream is the greatest closer of any ELO album.
Change my mind.

As a bird nut, I understand that the bird with the teardrop in his eye is not really plausible... but it's One Summer Dream, yes? Weird nonsense happens in dreams all of the time! I once had a dream that my shirt kept spontaneously changing colors, and it was annoying me because it changed every time I found a matching skirt. That is also not very plausible, but my weirdo brain dreamed it up anyway. As for the actual song, I think it's a sonic masterpiece and a perfect album closer.

Personally I'm more partial to Shangri-La... but One Summer Dream is definitely an underrated track from an underrated album for me. I don't know why, but I tend to forget how much I love FTM until I listen to it, and then I fall in love with it all over again.

I don't know what Jeff's aim was, but I've always thought FTM was a 180 degree turn from the symphonic classical treatment that Eldorado got. The creepy backward audio to start it out, the electric chair on the album cover, the fast paced rock guitar of Fire on High and Poker - it's like he was out to prove that ELO wasn't some pretentious classical art band, they had some bad boy rock stuff going on too
but the album also has Waterfall and One Summer Dream, two of Jeff's most beautiful melodies
a jumble of stuff going on with that album - the yin and yang of ELO

I like OSD, but...... in my opinion,it goes on just a little too long. The opening chords and the first verse are sublime but imho, the song just ambles along until the fade eventually ends it....

Its a big reason he has been able to hang around unlike most everyone else.
