Er....no! If I started assessing every item it would be like, Sweet Talkin' Woman? well that was the first single I bought so I can't get rid of that,Time album? no way it's my favourite etc etc..... I say don't make it a monkey on your back. Go through all now and enjoy without a plan. Seems it's been some time since you've done this? Don't assume what you think you will do.
You're living ELO large, right now. Perfect time.

There's one theory, I think it's Mari Kondo, where you are supposed to touch every object and see if you get a spark of joy, if not it's time to let go. Then you are supposed to hug the object and thank it for being in your life. marie kondo!!! I did this - totally changed my life!!! Changing or at least thinking about your relationship to stuff is important.

Changing or at least thinking about your relationship to stuff is important. elophile and queenofthehours re Marie Kondo...I tried. I read the book a couple of summers ago, and I think I really tried, but I guess I was not ready for the transformation. I still have trouble parting with my old "stuff." (My approach now is to try to not acquire so much new "stuff.") It didn't help that at the same time I was reading the far more entertaining material in Jennifer Scott's Madame Chic books, about how living in France transformed her sense of style and self-confidence. (That didn't happen to me when I lived there, but better late than never!) I wouldn't say that her books totally changed my life, but they did make me up my game a bit as far as clothing/style is concerned. I figured that in middle age, it was time for a little upgrade (since time was starting to take its toll on the "natural resources") and this proved very helpful for me! Granted, I still love me some tee shirt and jeans, but I feel more aware now and much better equipped to elevate the chic factor when I want to. I recommend her books for any woman in a similar situation. They are a fun, light read, even if you only use some of what she discusses.

I'm going to watch her Ted X talk on the 10 item wardrobe. I like to think I've got a pretty good handle on my personal style but lately I have been feeling the need to up my game.

I found a slow, devilish way getting rid of things, especially family heirlooms I'm tired of looking at. When my two nieces are here, I ask them if there is something of mine they'd like. At first they are shy. Evening goes on, few drinks and they open up.

I'm still undecided about what to do so I won't be making any rash decisions just yet....

When I'm struggling to streamline my stuff, watching one of those hoarder documentaries is enough to scare me into action. Fear, however, might not be the best remedy. My brand new patent chucking-out technique is to move the offending item to a new location. It's easy to get used to seeing something in one place, if you move it you often realise just what utter uselessness it really is. I also put things in charity bags and then go through them just before they are collected - if you feel compelled to take stuff out you were wrong to get rid of it but if you can't be bothered to take stuff out then you did the right thing.
Think William Morris and keep only beautiful and useful stuff - thankfully ELO comes under both categories .

My collection doesn't take up that much room, about 3 LP cases,2 singles box's and a box for magazines, cuttings etc. It's all in the loft so it's out of the way anyway BUT it's whats going to happen to it if and when I snuff it,do I reap the financial rewards now or have them given away cheaply later?
