Super stressful day: I actually feel like getting on the treadmill tonight! What is happening to me? Could it be the temperature rise? Maybe you are like iguanas or crocodiles who get more active as the temperature gets warmer.

Super stressful day: I actually feel like getting on the treadmill tonight! What is happening to me? Could it be the temperature rise? Maybe you are like iguanas or crocodiles who get more active as the temperature gets warmer. So you are saying that I am a cold-blooded animal now? Most of the time you chide me for being too nice!! It could be, but it's more likely that it's the amount of stress today, and I can anticipate how much better I will feel because I remember how good I felt last time (which was not that long ago). Also, I listen to OOTB at the same time. My OOTB CD is right there in the CD player next to the treadmill. ( OOTB used to be my favorite CD for the car. Now it's the Wembley CDs for my commute! Driving my son crazy, but I love it!) There are other positive associations I'm making with exercise, too. I've decided that it's good to walk longer, but more slowly, so that I can do other things at the same time, like read and log on to the forum. I'm about to get started in a couple of minutes and I will check back in on the forum while I'm walking.

Most of the time you chide me for being too nice!! Well, those two things are not mutually exclusive. Look, this cold blooded animal is really nice: One of the advantages a treadmill has is that you can go checking your phone while waking without getting ran over by cars.

babyzoomer My day was not nearly as stressful as hers. It was a long day, with the usual end of the semester mad rush, compounded by having to reschedule and try to complete things missed during the days off because of weather. Another teacher I know needed help from me, and I was not in a position (time-wise) to assist her properly. I think everyone was grumpier than usual yesterday. After 40 minutes on the treadmill and a brief workout with the hand weights, with OOTB playing in the background, I felt better. I have made my peace --more or less, at least for now, with my salary. With my credentials and my years of experience, I am not in a position to complain about pay, at least relative to other teachers, so I typically don't. Most teachers are not paid adequately for what we do. Teachers starting out, though, do have it the toughest, so I feel for them more than anyone. Having said that, I do applaud those like Ms. Hargrave, who are willing to take a bold stand and speak up for teachers and the hard and very necessary work we do.

The recurrent complaint here in Oz is that great teachers cannot get promoted commensurate with their talents without going into management i.e. becoming principals etc (and essentially leaving teaching). My wife is a great teacher; but has had abandon virtually all hope of actual coalface teaching in her search for a better wage...for reasons you can understand.
The link between physical exercise (particularly repetitive stuff like walking) and stress relief is firmly established; my wife walks at least 10000 steps a day (monitored by her employer-provided Fitbit). Alas my most repetitive activity lately has been raising the bourbon and (diet) coke to my mouth.....
Hope you are ok....sounds like you are (as much as possible) at peace with your work.
We agree that JL is a help......

We agree that JL is a help...... It's similar here. We do have a voluntary, nationally-recognized credential that is performance-based that teachers can pursue and receive a salary increase, if successful, here in NC, and I've have had that credential for over 10 years. There are sometimes incentives for other types of leadership roles as teachers, but those are few and far between in most districts. There are certain predictable patterns and rhythms to the school year, and we're just hitting a brief but very stressful stretch right now as the semester comes to a screeching halt. It's all good! Hats off to your wife! That's great! Hopefully, I'll exercise regularly this time around. I'm moderately active anyway during the natural course of the day, but I need to do more to stay healthy and avoid the chronic illnesses that seem to run in my family. And you: Go easy on the bourbon!

I'm really impressed that Mrs Babyzoomer's employer actually provided a Fitbit, this is most enlightened of them. To help reach my daily step count I walk around the block at my office several times a day, it takes about 3 minutes and I actually find it's been a good way of pondering over things as I trot along. Quite often realised I've missed something or had a bright idea, it's a bit like stepping back from a painting and seeing the full perspective. It's also quite funny running into other people who are obviously doing the same thing, these step counters have a lot to answer for

Walked yesterday and today on the treadmill, and did the weights workout yesterday, too! I might do the weights tonight, too! I was listening to Out of the Blue, and reading a book about improving memory as we age. Very pleasant! I hope I can keep up this exercise habit!
