Actually I prefer bourbon....but I don't mind a beer or 3 in the afternoon.
Get behind me temptation!

Yeah I'm an ozzie - and I'd like to go on being a live one. Hence the 'health kick' - but it makes life DAMN boring.
Luckily I can get a little lite relief & support here!

elophile Keep up the great work!! I'm really impressed!! I'm inspired!! I'm embarrassed about my own slacking off my exercise regimen!! I'm down to just two 3-mile walks per week instead of the five or six I was averaging during the second half of summer. So I've hit the dreaded plateau, with about 8-10 pounds to go, but at least I'm not gaining. I occasionally drink alcohol, but my high-calorie vice is chocolate. One saving grace is that my increased chocolate consumption these days is offset by the fact that I'm burning more calories in the course of the workday. I'm on my feet most of the day and moving about the classroom working with the kids and monitoring their behavior. Plus, I'm up and down the stairs a couple of times a day, and my parking space is a nice little walk from my building... My meals are pretty healthy, but I do love my snacks.... I definitely need to step up my game...I might be able to meet my goal if I get back to the exercise routine again.

I think it's good to lay off the diet for a while once you reach that point. That way you'll fool your metabolism!!!

elophile lol I wish there was a diet to lay off of!!! I've just sort of reverted to the pre-caring-about-these-things habits: healthy, well-balanced meals (which was already my habit for years), but with decadent snacks and only two walks a week. I did not have a lot to lose, but I had only lost about 3 pounds to begin with, so there's hardly anything to feel so virtuous about just yet.... Like I said, the silver lining is that I'm not gaining. The transition to a new school with a heavier workload (but a much more pleasant overall experience) has made me lazier about my exercise commitment. I'll need to exercise regularly the rest of my life in order to stay healthy, given my family's history, so I might as well get back on that treadmill...

Come on eloneen , you are too young to give up! Re-install the bike and/or the treadmill and the excercise will help you. The other option you've got is do like me and catch a 8-10 days long flu twice in a month, I've gone down like 4 kilos and now I've got to eat more than usual to regain weight.

Helmut83 I haven't given up! The treadmill has not gone anywhere! It sits there taunting me in our home office room!! My new school has come with more cooperative students, but more of them and a heavier workload. I've got to figure out how to make it all work (self-care, work tasks that I need to take home, family responsibilities, spending time with loved ones, and other activities that I'm involved with) with this new rhythm to my days and weeks. Plus, old-timers like me need time to adjust to big changes.... I'm experimenting with a number of changes. I'm working on it, trust me! Maybe instead of multitasking while I'm on the Forum doing other things I need to do at home, I can take longer, slower walks on the treadmill while I'm on the Forum sometimes. We'll see. Thanks for the encouragement!

Since this thread seems to be morphing into a weight-loss theme, here's my progress:
Just finished week 7 on the diet (and on the wagon), with a total loss so far of 17.4kg (38lbs); that's roughly 2.5kgs/week (5.5lbs/week).
I plateaued badly about 2 weeks ago, so I switched from a low calorie diet to virtually no food.
And only another 30kg to go....
