This was unusual for ELO to play "live" on top of the pops? I remember that certainly from OOTB (and possibly ANWR singles) Top of the Pops only ever showed videos. also on this single Kelly shared the lead vocal. Were there any other singles where his voice was the lead?

One of my favorite songs and I'm not even going to try and guess how many times I have watched that video lol.

What's the deal with Jeff not lip syncing in the beginning? It seems he had been told that he wouldn't be on camera until a certain point in the song.

why was it on top of the pops, i thought it was one of those odd 70's singles that actually didn't chart in the uk.

It must have been 'bubbling under' as they say, but even so at that time they were not a big name chart wise....

It was strange to have it on there, I was under the impression that Top Of The Pops only showcased chart entries! This clipping from Record Collector magazine 1982 from a short story of the records of ELO shows it didn't chart. Attachment Deleted

I think at that time(1975/76) it was just a top 30 chart, that's why it is listed as never making the chart.

i assume this recording (expecting it would chart) as an 'in the TOTP studio performance' as they would be over in america touring during the release time of the single. i wonder if it was ever aired

Some crackers on that show wasn't there! Slik, which was Midge Ures first band, Paul Nicholas who went on to TV and west end theatre fame, Andrea True Connection (rumoured to be a porn actress!) Diana Ross, who once attacked a British Airways staff member (whatever became of her?) Laurie Lingo and the Dipsticks, who were Dave Lee Travis and Paul Burnett (two popular Radio One dj's at the time) Eric Carmen who went onto invent hair curlers, a great song by Gladys Knight, don't know much about Silver Convention, Two belters by The Four Seasons and The Bellamy Bros and the highlight of the show being The Brotherhood of Man, the line up for this band came from Wakefield West Yorkshire which is just 2 miles from where I am sitting at this moment in time!

I must be going senile!.... Even though "Nightrider" was on Top Of The Pops, and the Record Collector magazine stated it didn't chart, Jet issued the single in 1976 and it was Marketed by Polydor in the UK. Attachment Deleted

Timeblue I was curious about what Diana Ross was up to also. She is 73 now and she's still performing. She's scheduled to perform 9 nights in Vegas in October.
