Beautiful pictures, BIuebird . It's so nice to see all the different birds, their colours are so striking. I loved the little quail chicks.

eloneenThe fires look like they are Northwest of where we were staying, but they certainly could be getting heavy rain where we were visiting! The locals were telling us that we landed just as monsoon season was about to start. During that time they get a lot of heavy rain, and sometimes flooding. I hadn't realized they had a monsoon season, so that was really interesting to learn! Luckily, we dodged the heavy rain while we were there. Most of the rain we saw evaporated before it hit the ground, or left only a few drops. TimeblueOh yes! Especially this time of year, the juvenile starlings really eat up all the suet quickly. I just looked it up, and they do make starling proof suet and mealworm feeders. They look quite expensive, however! The cheapest one I saw was 70 USD, but you might be able to find something more reasonable closer to you? I am sure the shipping from the US to the UK would add quite a hefty fee to that, too. BSJAww, but the wrens are so cute! I love their little stick-up-straight tails. We actually don't get many wrens at our feeders. Honestly, I am not bothered by any types of birds at our feeders, but the squirrels and chipmunks drive me mad! They stuff all of the food in their cheek pouches and actively scare off the birds. They typically can clear the feeders out in a day! I started buying birdseed and suet with hot pepper in it to keep them away, and it works. Birds can't taste hot peppers, but the squirrels and chipmunks sure can! queenofthehoursThank you, I am glad you like the photographs. The quail chicks were some of my favorites, they were just so cute!

We have problems with wrens and sparrows. Way too many of them. I don't like feeding what I call mice with wings. Are you sure they are wrens? they are usually solitary birds (in the UK anyway) I'm surprised you haven't used your cake for them....

We put out top bird food, no waste, to attract songbirds, etc. We counted 40 something wens, sparrows, the other day. They swoop in and make it drag for the other birds who want at the feeder, or scare them away. We started throwing feed on the ground hoping this will help. Ya, right. I'm ready to shut up shop.
We have feeders that drop covering the feed holes when a squirrel jumps on it. Rare we see a squirrel. And those pesky chipmunks are vacuum cleaners.

It sounds a good idea my killer cake. But seeing as you're still breathing...

Learn to like those Wrens BSJthey are primarily insect eaters and favor the gypsy moth, which is an invasive insect that can wreak havoc on trees plus they have a very pleasing call and as you say - the chipmunks clean up the scattered seed, so it's all good

We only have two chippies. It's great watching their cheeks puff out, almost dragging on the ground.
Yup, a familiar song! Maybe there isn't enough insects here. Or, enough to go around!

Nice writeup and photo report, Horacewimp . Heidelberg looks so beautiful with those cobbled streets and it's typically German buildings, in terms of buildings Germany has to be the most beautiful country in the world, it's towns are stunning. You were lucky to enjoy such an epic race, I've read on the newspaper about Mick Schumacher driving his dad's car and that it was an emotional moment for the people who were present there. Good to see that the city paid due tribute to the important things in life like the Industrial Revolution and the Two-Headed Monster. That grey Aston Martin with the guns, what is that? I need that car!

Wonderful pictures, Horacewimp . Some lovely buildings, cools cars and some very scary sculpture - that monkey is the stuff of nightmares.

Only a classy, beautiful town like Heidelberg could give the Two Headed Monster its proper due. The 'ell with that plume of smoke? How many out of control grills did you have burnin', burnin' for your special "Get 'em here! Wimp's so, so fine sausages!"? Very cool shot of the orange car spinning out in the rain. Oh! and, I am I right? The same car with the Heidelberg castle in the background? Golden. Which bobble head are you, Horacewimp ? You had a nice trip. Thanks for sharing.
