queenofthehours, this has to be one of my favorite tourism write-ups. Never mind being creeped out by the path of gravestones, the over-grown ivy creeping up the tunnel wall and the obelisk would have me hesitate walking through there, too. But I’d do it! FUN! The history of this beautiful cemetery and incredible church is fascinating. Checked out the web sites. How did you come about visiting this cemetery?

The main Cathedral is a massive monolith, you can see it from pretty much everywhere and it's hugely impressive. When we visited it we were really struck by how welcoming it was, even when certain bits were roped off there were apologetic signs and encouragement to enjoy all the rest of it. We were too early to climb the tower as it didn't open until after we had to leave, but that's yet one more reason to visit Liverpool again On the Magical Mystery Tour we heard how Paul McCartney auditioned to sing in the cathedral choir there as a boy, but was told he wasn't good enough

When I last saw Jeff at Liverpool in 2016 I went up the cathedral tower which has views like this -

(Apparently you can see Wales from up there)
I looked down over the parapet and saw what looked like a hidden graveyard. Being very curious I wanted to see what it was like but didn't have time that day so I had to wait until I took another trip before there was a chance.
Other places I saw while in Liverpool include the library -

Surely it isn't just me that visits graveyards and libraries in other cities?! But that cemetery was very interesting and this library was very cool - look, it almost looks like it belongs in the world of ELO! In fact, the interactive computers they had in some of the library's more historical rooms were named elo! The library also has a very beautiful round reading room which is worth a visit.
I also saw a dazzle ship in the Mersey, and the new Ugo Rondinone sculpture -

Also, while riding on a hop-on-hop-off tourist bus, I spotted a gaggle of people congregating around at building on Hope Street. Hmm, surely Horacewimp said something about this, I thought. And sure enough that night I realised that Liverpool had been playing at home!

The library is insane! I wondered how the sculpture was assembled. Obviously not with Elmer's glue!

Ooh yes, must visit the library too next time, what a brilliant interior We saw the sculpture too but it was in the dark and we weren't overly impressed. Then we saw on the tv news the day after that it was something special, oops! We plainly don't have much artistic appreciation

Crazy beautiful city. What's the story of the globe. And, of course the wall of booze.

Crazy beautiful city. What's the story of the globe. And, of course the wall of booze. The globe was been made in a chocolate factory next to a chocolate shop don’t know why they were doing it but they had some crazy chocolate models in there. The bottles are what I drank The bottle wall was in a Beer Museum just off the main square it was really good especially at the end where there was a bar with loads of beers you could sample in 15ml glasses. This wasn’t the only museum we visited we also went to the frite museum only in Belgium would there be a museum about chips/fries. www.frietmuseum.be/en/mybeerexperience.com/en

Fantastic photos, Horacewimp, I've always planned to visit Bruges and this just confirms what a brilliant place it is. The wall of beer is espcially impressive *plans the same for own living room* And I adore all that flemish architecture, it's such a shame we don't plaster our buildings in interesting pointy and frilly bits like that any more. Hope you managed to sample some proper Belgian frites at least once...

Plymouth Rocks: This weekend, I visited Plymouth, on the south-west coast of England. First stop, the waterfront, known as Plymouth Hoe: "You're visiting Plymouth?" said everyone. "Oh, then you must visit the Hoe - that's where you get the most stunning views." Got there in the end. A "friend" of the forum put in an appearance. (I didn't go in there, though - didn't want to have to spend two hours listening to him bragging about the size of his carrot, so to speak.) In the meantime, Banana Llama has teamed up with Nieve and No Cause to spearhead a campaign to promote health and wellbeing. I think we can all applaud their selfless efforts to support and inspire others. A cafe we visited had some board games available. "Time" for a quick bit of shop art. (As we were leaving the cafe, I noticed that my three letters had been removed and placed on a nearby chessboard! Clearly, another fan had been on the premises!) And, finally, the reason I'd travelled to Plymouth in the first place: The show was superb. All the musicians were excellent, there were clever visual effects, and the girl singer (Mandy Watson), sounded so much like Kate Bush, at times, you would have thought it was Kate herself. And they played my two favourite Kate songs, Sat In Your Lap and (of course), Wuthering Heights. Highly recommended.

The highlights of my birthday visit to the Tower of London. I'd never been before. Thought it was just one big castle, but no, there are loads of towers and buildings to explore. We spent over three hours there, it was a fine (though cloudy) day out. From the walls of the Tower, you get a good view of nearby Tower Bridge, on the River Thames. Here's one for BIuebird. When not meeting visitors, the Tower ravens keep themselves amused on their lawn. This is the White Tower, one of the main buildings. And, front left, you can just about make out a raven sitting on the roof of his cage, beak pointed towards the right of the picture. An important polar bear from the Industrial Revolution. (Ye ancient kings used to keep a menagerie of exotic beasts in the grounds of the Tower. In 1252, the king of Norway sent a polar bear, as a gift. Mr Polar Bear was allowed to go swimming in the Thames and catch his lunch, as long as he was on a leash.) Traitors' Gate (or as elophile would call it, "You Diss Jeff... Gate"). This entrance is right on the Thames. Prisoners accused of treason would be brought to the Tower by barge. On the way, they'd be treated to the view of the heads of executed prisoners, displayed on spikes on London Bridge. Those Tudors.) A quick bit of Gift Shop Art. On display, royal-type seals for sealing letters. You can see which three letters I chose. Made a quick getaway before they could throw me in a dungeon. We did see a rack and some other instruments of torture, but I think I'll stick to setting Christmas Challenge puzzles to torment my fellow forumheads. Can recommend the Tower to anyone visiting Old London Town, though.

I've heard that you can look around Bevs palatial maisonette if you book thru the Jet2 website, you can see his gold discs hung up in the hallway just by the hatstand, and even play his drums that he keeps in his garage.

Dizzy looking down those stairs. Favorite is the directional indicator with the ship beyond. That tunnel lead you to your room? Showed Dave the Skywalk plaque. When are you going to move there?
