It's awesome how fast I turned from "ungrateful little" to "my man". I guess the answer to that sudden change is "it flows"? All fixable.

i've gone and done it again. more Fruity Loops fun. tried to incorporate some chords i don't normally use. tried to give it a nautical feel. sadly i think this one just kind of drones on and on.... First Mate Skippy

So, edit it.

Well, it's not quite so simple to me. Most of the fun I had in composing this piece was adding an extra layer of audio/instrumentation at the start of each verse, thus slowly building the song up. So if it sucks, it sucks. To edit the song would be to remove my original intentions.

Too-too... too-too-tee-tee-too-too-tin... the riff is incredibly sticky, it remained in my head a good while after I listened to it.
I like your idea of respecting your original intentions. Some songs can benefit from some modifying, but other times you got since the beginning a very clear vision of what you want and you want to stick to it, even if, as you say, you've got to adopt the "if it sucks it sucks" attitude.

it's hard to follow an act like The Street Next Door (song still gets stuck in my head) but i wanted to post something simple i recorded tonight so i can share some of my guitar playing that isn't a complete blast from the past. sadly i haven't written any songs on the guitar in a long time. writer's block or lack of motivation? lack of equipment? probably. tune in next week to find out! so i'm going to break the rules and post my little cover and hope i don't get banned, for i will be lonesome. Cover -- The Smiths -- Back to the Old House
recorded with my 1950's National hollow body. Nice except it's hard to catch the bass notes. drum track on fruity loops. effects with audacity. no real recording equipment for me anymore. just plugged the guitar directly into the computer. so sound is not great but it's got an unintentional ghostly feel to it. i loved learning this one because my fingers had to do some real dancing.

Great cover, jiminyjellysolo! Beautiful, very touching. I had to look up for the original, I am quite ignorant of The Smiths' work (I think unomusette is a bit of a fan) and I didn't know the song. It was indeed a very accurate cover. Did you play it fingerstyle? Now watch out for the ban

(sigh of relief) you guys are too kind. the more i listen to it the more horrible the sound quality seems, and i have horrible speakers. my biggest fault is how the bass notes go completely unrecognized in the recording process. both my guitar's fault (was always its weak point) and my pc's. i should have played this on acoustic but i have baby hands, no mic, and not enough strength to play the whole song through with the action on my acoustic. i desire an ovation. (the guitar, not a standing ovation) but i'll quit with the excuses and just say ... thanks so much for listening.

Lovely tune jiminyjellysolo - I do like the echoey feel. It reminds me of the music that used to go with a children's animated programme when I was a kid, I think it was meant to sound like an old fashioned recording one of those old barrel organs.. Doesn't ring a bell with me as a Smiths song but I'm not such a big fan as Helmut83 is making out - I just have their Best Of album with all the singles (which I do really like)
