Glasses! Where are the glasses?
They’re there… look closer Cooooool! And there he is second from the right bottom, high school photo!
Tk6 and I visited “The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame” in Cleveland last week. Thought I’d share a few highlights. We didn’t take too many photo’s, like living in the moment. Click on building photo.
Enlargement of handwritten Del’s song “Runaway”.
Mr Petty’s coat he wore in “So You Want To Be a Rock n Roll Star” video, 1985. Now how can you not want to wear this beauty again! Mmmmm… reminds me of a song!

Mick's 1981 tour garb. I get the biggest kick out of him. Wouldn’t mind having that poster.
Steel Wheels 1990 tour. Belt weighed more than he did.
Joe Strummer’s (Clash) 1966 Fender Telecaster. His primary guitar. It’s in the R&R Halls current exhibit, "Louder Than Words: Rock, Power & Politics" the power of rock. “London Calling… London calling to the zombies of death”. Ahead of their time with the zombie theme.
Lennon’s guitar he played at his “Bed In”, was included in the exhibit too (photo off web, mine too dark). They moved it from the Beatle wall.
Jeff Beck’s well used no strings Fender when with the Yardbirds.

Johnny Ramone’s leather coat, Dee Dee’s bass, Johnny’s guitar under.
A few strange things. Boy Scout uniform of Jim Morrison, and Jimi Hendrix’s father gave the family couch that Jimi sat on when writing. There is a large burn hole on a cushion and its a little worse for the wear.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about seeing pieces of the plane that crashed while carrying Otis Redding. Seems very insensitive and creepy. I do consider the plane his coffin. (photo stolen)
The Wall (R&R Hall’s shot)
Tk6’s shot.

Now here’s to the U2 lovers in the forum (you know who you are!) The East German Trabant cars from the 1992 ZOO TV tour. (bottom photo R&R Hall’s) This is the Halls entrance.
There is no shortage of memorabilia to gawk at, seven floors I believe. The first floor has the major exhibits, starting with the history of rock from Africa to the blues and onward.
You do become star struck. Ya can’t help it.
The official reason for putting the Hall in Cleveland is DJ Alan Freed was the first to use the term “rock and roll” to describe the music that pissed off parents in the 1950s. The unofficial reason is that the city threw out the most money to get it. Will go with that one!
Last there was 15 or so years ago. Planning not waiting this long again. They rotate the “stock”.
Cleveland is such a nice city to enjoy time in. We liked roaming the very clean downtown, checked out buildings restored into indoor shopping shops. Found two great restaurants in the financial district. We were able to eat outside in front of one of them and take in the city life. Rare in the wilds of Toledo. We needed more than a day and half to really see this great city.
It’s a huge sports city, or so I’m told. I writing this for Helmut who is probally still in shock when I told him I had no idea the Cavaliers (who? A sports team for Cleveland) won something (already have forgotten what, but I think it was pretty important). So when hitting that city I made a note to keep eyes open to sport stuff. Noticeable were banners still hanging for “The Donald Trump Brother’s Love Traveling Salvation Show” (Republican convention) that had been in town week earlier. *shug*
Found something! Here is a photo of Cleveland’s Progressive Field where concerts are held, and sport events too! I’ll be! Click this photo, Lake Erie in background.
WAIT!! What? Did you leave out something? No….. You sure? Yes! Don’t get people all worked up! They are going to think I’m holding something back! Maybe you are? Well, just a small thing. Tk6 and I kept our eyes peeled for ANYTHING ELO. Checked out all relevant tickets and posters shown in the displays - nope. Until the gift shop. What is for sale there? A framed Traveling Wiburys album cover and album. Oh, well.

Ramones and Strummer's exhibit was a happy emotional experience and I'm not too sure why.

It sure looks like a great place to visit, will have to put it on the list next time we go to Mrs Wimps sister in Canada. Pity there isn't a ferry from Leamington across the lake to Cleveland.

The Hall backs up to Lake Erie and I thought of you when seeing the lake. It is well worth the trip. Maybe meet there!!! There is (or was) a ferry from Sandusky to Leamington, but it takes about six hours, quicker to walk. I can feel some holiday planning coming on B'ham-New York-Cleveland-Toledo-Chatham Kent-Detroit-B'ham. Hadn't better mention it to Mrs Wimp she has just spent all my money on a hot tub.

I couldn't get this photo to post earlier
This type of guitar is all around downtown Cleveland. “Guitar Mania” is a yearly art fundraiser put together by the city. Artists decorate a fiberglass guitar that is than displayed somewhere in the city, then auctioned off and the money goes to support charities and such. You can find them all over the city. One was in our hotel lobby. Toledo has frogs. City built on a swampy land, hence the nickname "Frog Town".

Fantastic stuff, BSJ ! What a good place to visit! Tk6 and you must have had a great time. You said you didn't take many photos but you spoiled us with a good amount of them. I loved the Trabants suspended in the air. Was John Lennon's guitar the one he played in the video of "Give Peace a Chance?". Johnny Ramone didn't seem to treat his guitar very well. Mick's belt... man was he thin! And yeah, I agree about the display of part of Otis Redding's plane being a bit polemic. I still think the RnR hall of fame are a bunch of fat bureaucrats that understand about what sells but very little about music (come on, some of the inductees are shameful) and that ELO's absence alone speaks a lot about those snobs' musical knowledge, but they've built a great thing anyway and I'd go visit all the same in a heartbeat. Uh, and in case you still haven't learnt anything from the Cavaliers (or Cavs, as they call them), they are a baseball team who recently won the Super Bowl after their goalkeeper scored a try in the last minute. I'm curious as to which song Mr. Petty's coat reminds you of...

What a super trip! It looks like you had a great time, BSJ !
That's my kind of museum . The RARHOF seems to be a musical version of the British Museum but in Ohio.
So much history! Roy's glasses, Tom's jacket, John's guitar, Ringo's drums... I wouldn't get very far in that museum, I'd still have my nose pressed up against the glass protecting Strummer's guitar at closing time.
Just think, you can't get up close to Mick Jagger but you can be within touching distance of his clothes!
The things that Ringo's kit has seen... the things it's played. How you managed to battle your star-struckness, BSJ , and keep exploring I'll never know!
