I saw John Otway in 1999/2000 thereabouts. Very entertaining. Hope he did the amplifier jumping and the flying shirt button thing.

2022 tour dates for The Orchestra (Florida in March and Israel dates now scheduled in early June) and Atomic Light Orchestra (strictly Maryland) plus a few Parthenon gigs (North Carolina and DC area) if The Orchestra is the poor man's ELO, then ALO is the poor man's orchestra, and I guess that makes Hux the poor man's Jeff Lynne ... why don't these groups ever play Poor Boy? parthenonhuxley.com/showswww.atomiclightorchestra.com/tour

I'm thinking 2022 might be the year that I finally take in a Weeklings gig. so much more than a Beatles tribute band

As my screen name says, I'm a big fan of the Baltimore Orioles (despite their recent history of penny pinching and lousy teams). They had teased a big announcement for today. Are they finally going to get some pitching?
No, but it turned out to be something of interest. Paul McCartney is going to play a stadium concert this summer at Camden Yards (the Oriole's park). Sign me up!

Last week, they were giving away tickets for an Eels concert. This week, I see it's been pushed back to 2023 due to Covid-19. Geez, we may be on to the next variant by then. Cases have fallen quite a bit in the US so this delay surprises me.
Now when is Jeff going to launch his 51.5 anniversary tour?

went to a triple bill outdoor concert last night: Peach Face (local band) opened, The Heavy Hours (Ohio) went next - straight up rock band, then Parquet Courts was the headliner. Parquet Courts surprised me - they fit more into the punk genre than anything else. Not what I expected based on the songs getting radio play.

I saw the Doobie Brothers last night at an outdoor venue in Raleigh, NC. This was part of their 2020 50th anniversary tour, postponed due to the pandemic. There was a huge crowd, the weather was perfect and the show was fantastic! My husband estimated that the average age of the spectators was probably about 60, and they seemed to be mostly fans of the rock oriented DB tunes, although there was a great deal of love, respect and appreciation shown to Michael McDonald. Fans were on their feet for several of his songs. They played an impressive 2 hour + set of about 25 songs. I knew about 15 songs quite well - their major hits, for the most part. The setlist included songs from throughout their 50 year career. They played 4 songs from their latest album (and apologized a couple of times for doing so , even as they were trying to promote the album), and about a half dozen other songs that I had heard before, but didn't know so well. Other than leaving the stage before their three-song encore (Black Water, Takin' it to the Streets and Listen to the Music), there were no breaks, and they kept things moving along without speeding up or rushing through the songs. Having three lead singers and alternating their songs strategically throughout the setlist helped them to maintain their energy and momentum. Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons were superb on the guitars and lead vocals, and they both interacted with the audience throughout the show. John McFee (guitar, backing vocals, harmonica, violin) didn't miss a beat and was smiling the whole time. Michael McDonald was intently focused on his keyboards (fantastic, as usual) and vocals. Aside from the four major players, their excellent backing band held it all together. They all seemed really happy, truly grateful to be alive and making music, and being able to play in front of an appreciative crowd. They were animated and engaging without running around and acting half their age. They were clearly having fun together! We were in a good location, seated stage left, about as close as we could be on the lawn; with the help of binoculars, we could see up close really well when we chose to. The Jumbotrons helped, too. Michael McDonald's voice is not what it used to be (he has said as much himself, I've heard), but he sounded really good most of the time --better last night than in some of the videos I've seen from this tour. It was a lovely way to spend the night out on my birthday, after avoiding crowds for over two years due to the pandemic. Here's a review of a show earlier in the week: www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/music/2022/06/11/doobie-brothers-50th-anniversary-tour-michael-mcdonald-soars/7590872001/

Generally preferred McDonald era Doobies myself and could never understand why they (or any other band for that matter) needed two drummers?

Generally preferred McDonald era Doobies and could never understand why they (or any other band for that matter) had two drummers? I really like the variety of their catalog and the versatility of the musicians. There is a full concert video on youtube of the DB in Santa Barbara in 1982, where there are three percussionists, at least one of whom also sang lead vocals on Listen to the Music when Tom Johnston was out of the picture for a while, as well as backing vocals on other songs. . Consummate professionals, and extremely talented, to a man. They've had so many folks come through as members of the band, that it's really impressive to me that a core group can still hold the center and maintain the integrity of the band's music all these years.

I was supposed to see Jack Johnson this weekend, but at the last minute he had to postpone due to Covid. So I went to see Aaron Lee Tasjan instead. Fantastic show! Aaron is a one man Travelling Wilbury. Tommy Petty guitar licks, a collection of magic pedals that let him produce all sorts of dreamy synth sounds from his guitar until he finally switches to the keyboard for the last part of the show. And through it all he lets his personality shine through in fun banter with the audience. His solo shows are more acoustic / americana in nature. Last night was full on rock and roll with this song as the opener.
