A-ha!

Saw them live,  last night, at the BBC Radio theatre for a  show on Radio 2/red button simulcast. Was never a fan, by any means, but was surprised  at what a good live act they are and the very impressive back catalogue of songs that go way past the early synth pop of hits like Take On Me and some very good new material. They're knocking on a bit now (Morten Harket is 57 !) but wearing pretty well.

I have a friend who shared a digs with them in London way before they were signed..they used to play their demo's and he used to smile at them, making positive noises whilst thinking absolutely no way.

I discovered a while ago that I quite like A-Ha! Their 25 Deluxe Edition gets an airing from time to time.

I have never listened closely enough to form an opinion on Aha. A few of the regularly played singles I like a lot and I did really enjoy the songs from their Radio 2 concert. I think I'm going to have to give them a closer look.

I remember in the mid 80s, my much younger sister bought the magazine Smash Hits. There was a question and answer with Jeff Lynne due to the release of the single 'Calling America'. One of the questions asked if he liked any of the current bands and i remember his answer was A-Ha!

Ah, you can hear a similarity between ELO and A-Ha, that poppy sound with great hooks. You could have both bands' hits on a homemade compilation easily and not know the difference (well, obviously the proper fans will, but not the "all-I-know-of-ELO-is-that-blue-sky-song" fans ).
