The band of the week is Snake Rattle Rattle Snake. They are from Denver and have a psychedelic vibe. Here are some videos and live performances. Hope you enjoy.

Looks very interesting J4! Looking forward to checking them out, and will aim to send my feedback by mid-week! Interesting name for a band, I was looking for the words "rattle and roll" to go with them, ha ha. Jim

The Breathe and the Glow – I definitely get the psychedelic vibe on this one. Sounds like something from an acid trip in the desert. One thing I don’t like is the heavy echo on the vocals. That always annoys me. Otherwise, solid tune.
Evil Eye – A little bit of techno thrown in, here. A bit of a Middle Eastern feel. Almost has an old 90’s alt-rock thing going on. Not bad, but doesn’t go anywhere to keep it from being anything other than just ok.
Break the Same – I like the driving, pulsating rhythm. Not much of a melody to draw me in, but the sound is interesting.
Versus – The singer reminds me of Courtney Love, on this one. Lots of atmospheric stuff going on. Interesting lyrics help to save the song from being somewhat boring and repetitive.
Loyalty – Sort of a late night feel on this track. I like it, despite the annoying reverb, again.
Overall, I’ll be nice and give this a 4/10. Interesting, and they have something different going. But the songs aren’t memorable.

I enjoy the lead singer's style. It's almost soulful, without trying to overdo it.

People generally look for context, and other band names gave that...so for a completely new act to me..i use it to place their sound.
The Breathe and the Glow - video not available in the uk Evil Eye - right first impression souise souix over u2 guitars over at radiohead's post ok computer house. very interesting combination and a perfectly natural fit. nice into Break the Same - yes this band have all the u2 albums, her vocal melodies so far are not broad but i like her voice Versus - best vehicle for her voice so far Loyalty - i like this a lot crescendo is terrific against a video that becomes more believable as the actor does less...very good breathe and glow live ...the band show just how hard they are working on this, on the face of it they are are lost in their own little world, they are not they are working hard to get the unit sound...excellent stuff
i have no idea who this band are, where they come from etc ...so only have the music to listen to Thank you, the interesting thing with this style of music is how difficult it is to keep the attention. Watching the band in the last one shows how hard they work (despite pretending not to) not sure I would buy this for my collection but I can appreciate it's value. Good choice

The Breath and the Glow - Bah! The vid is disabled But aha, there's a live version later, I''ll go by that. Nice meaty start, a bit bass-heavy but then it's not the perfect performance environment. More of the echoey, doomy sound which is their trademark, of its type it's pretty good. Evil Eye - This has an opening which grabs me straight away, moving into a trippy vocal. It doesn't really go anywhere but it's very atmospheric and the rhythm is sort of hypnotic. I ended up rather liking it. Break the Same - More interesting drumming to kick off, and a U2-ish guitar sound. I recently heard a song by Chvrches which I liked despite hating the contrived way they spell their name - this reminds me of their sound. Versus - Not mad about the overly repetitive lyrics but I like the echoey guitar sound. This one is too long for me, although it would make great background music. Maybe for one of those hippy shops somewhere like Glastonbury. Loyalty - I was so busy watching the video the music passed me by a bit. Towards the end it did mesh together well and it was very atmospheric again, but I was waiting for a surprise ending which never came. This is the kind of band I'd never have come across without this thread, that's what makes it so interesting. Not sure I could listen to them for more than about 6 songs, but what they do they do well and if you were in the mood it would be a quality choice. I think they could make a fortune doing soundtracks for films. It's a 6 out of 10 from me, thanks for sharing joeyjoejoejr

OK J4, here is my review of Snake Rattle Rattle Snake. 01. "The Breathe and the Glow" – A little bit heavy and dark; but good vocals and unique esoteric sound. 02. "Evil Eye" – Unique percussion and feel. Reminds me of "Invisible Sun" by The Police. 03. "Break the Same" – Unique rhythm and the typewriter percussion reminds me of Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry". My fave so far. 04. "Versus" – A little bit on the avant garde side. The production reminds of the atmospheric effects that Daniel Lanois uses. 05. "Loyalty" – One of them there chaotic therapeutic type of songs. Star Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Prime Cuts: "Break the Same", "Versus", "Evil Eye" Bottom Line: Esoteric therapeutic music, that like Bruce Springsteen believes in sifting through all of the darkness, in order to get to the light. Thanks for sharing J4, they were a unique band. Hopefully at least some of their tunes are more on the happier side? Got you marked down for next open spot in a couple months or so. Jim

The Breathe and the Glow – The fuzzy heavy guitar is a bit like The Jesus and Mary Chain or a shoegazing band of the mid-80s. I like it in an hypnotic way. It is very Jesus and Mary Chain to my ears and I love the Jesus and Mary Chain therefore I also like Snake Rattle Rattle Snake
Evil Eye – Sounds a little less like the Jesus and Mary Chain and more like New Order. It's still hypnotic though.
Break the Same – I love the drums, it reminds me of early New Order here almost exactly with the bass and drums as if the band had learnt from Peter Hook and Stephen Morris. Yep, I'm getting serious Joy Division/New Order flashback here. Versus – Another 80s sounding track this reminds me of something like 'Atmosphere' by Joy Division.
Loyalty – Slow and hypnotic. Dreamy and very shoegazery again. Very Jesus and Mary Chain.
I've never heard of the band before but I'll be sure to look out for them in the future. They seem to have the sound of all my favourite 80s groups rolled into one.
