What we saw against Portugal was an illusion, Germany is indeed weak as it's ever been. Congrats England.

We will have to play a lot better than that if we are to win it, even though we have a relatively easy passage to the final (on paper at least). The media will have a field day writing about Sterling but he makes so many tactical errors such as not releasing the ball at the right time etc. Kane was better last night and not before time and Sako again played well. At least the German hoodoo has been lifted!

I can't believe we beat Germany! I wasn't going to get excited about Euro 2020/21 because Wembley wouldn't be full, people wouldn't be able to celebrate and there were other things in the way that football can't cure ie the virus. That plus I haven't a clue who anyone is in the team. They all look very different to the '96 crew, all designer facial hair and expensive head hair.
I miss 1996. I had my wall chart which I diligently filled in. I still have it. I loved football back then and sat in my Euro '96 tee to watch every England game. Ye Olde Wembley... It looks different now but it's just as iconic. Poor old Gareth! 13 year old me felt that strongly about the ill-fated Germany match and the penalties that I went and wrote a notebook entry all about the excitement and despair of that event. I think I said that Gareth needed a hug. I felt so sorry for him. If anyone would have said that he'd be managing the team that would actually beat Germany in the same tournament 25 years later my brain would probably have exploded. I still have the notebook entry I believe but I've not read it since that day (at least not in 20 years).
Now I'm more into watching the Tour de France. Mark Cavendish won his first stage since 2016 yesterday so that was two great sporting moments in one day!

He is now only 3 behind the all time record set by Eddy Mercx....

We will have to play a lot better than that if we are to win it, even though we have a relatively easy passage to the final (on paper at least). I like your chances for the next match, Timeblue. Under Southgate, England have been making it their speciality to advance far on tournaments while not being or playing particularly good and not beating very hard opponents. In the World Cup 2018 they went as far as semifinals having beaten Panama, Tunisia, Colombia -on PKs- and Sweden (before they lost to Croatia). I'm not downplaying the merit Southgate and the team have on this: on the contrary, you have to be smart and opportunistic in order to take advantage of a lucky fixture. Lots of teams get easy fixtures and then are unable to take advantage of them and lose. Luck did its part, but so did -and is doing- England on the field (and besides, Germany, even this lousy version of it, is never what you'd call an easy opponent). Now you get a tired Ukraine side in quarterfinals, not the worst opponent at this quite advanced stage, and my money is on England making the most out of this opportunity again.

What a great tournament that was! Do you remember Gazza's sombrero-and-volley goal against Scotland? That was glorious!

EURO 2020 and the CL final have taught us that in the modern football strikers are useless.
Guardiola won the PL playing without strikers. Chelsea has got three strikers (Werner, Pulisic and Giroud) but you need to put them together to have a decent one. Italy has reached the semifinal playing without a good striker. Immobile played with Sevilla FC and Borussia Dortmund (A complete failure), he can only play in Serie A.
Belotti plays in the Torino Football Club, never played a match in Europe, this team fight every year to avoid relegation in serie B, so it's not a top Club. The last one, Raspadori, I really don't know who he is, believe me.
So we are winning matches thanks to our wonderful midfielders, to our GK Donnarumma (He has just signed for PSG), and to our amazing 37 years old defender Sergio Chiellini (Chiello). If we had some (Old) strikers like Pippo Inzaghi, or Bobo Vieri, we would have already won this tournament. Regarding the matches with Austria and Belgium, we were really lucky. The second half with Belgium was really awful. My last words for Leonardo Spinazzola, one of the best players of EURO 2020. A serious injury, he will probably come back next year...
