What was Bev's best drumming in ELO? The most technical moment that I can think of is in "In the Hall of the Mountain King".

Answering to joeyjoejoejr question: I don't know if "Jungle" could be called his best work, but I've noticed he used some latin elements like marking what's called the "clave" with a cowbell; that's something very typycal of salsa, cha cha, merengue, etc... That speaks about him being quite knowledgeable. I'm pretty sure in those times not every British rock drummer knew what a clave was. Was the percussion part in "So fine" played all by him? That's another interesting bit.

I think Jeff is (how can I put this) very.....single minded and does not like others having a different opinion to his. I think the fact that Don Arden was such a strong character helped keep Jeff doing what he does best. Jeff is known for ditching people who do not have Jeff's view but without them he is not as good as he thinks he is. I don't mean that to sound bad but under Don and with Bev and Kelly that was ELO after 83 it turned south. Could you imagine the crowd response if Jeff said "Ladies and gentlemen Mr Bev Bevan..." Don Arden stole millions from Jeff and that played a huge role in Jeff discontinuing ELO.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but didn't somebody on here say that Kelly Groucutt and Bev had a falling out, too? My understanding is that Bev found himself distanced from the rest of Part II when he quit in 1999, made worse by the fact he then sold his 50% share in the ELO name back to Jeff, meaning they were both without a drummer and the rights to the name they'd built up momentum using (not to mention they had live shows booked and were already familar with lawyers representing a certain Mr. Blue Sky for wrongly advertising concerts under a registered title he now exclusively owned). I've heard that Kelly still hadn't spoken to his former colleague when he passed, though it's believed Phil Bates is on good terms with Bev, since they've shared a stage as members of Quill after initially going separate ways.

If Bev was the crap drummer that some people believe,Jeff being the perfectionist that he is,could easily have found a way to dump him. The contracts with Harvest,Warner Bros,UA,MCA,Columbia,Epic all finished at some point,so Jeff was in his rights to walk away at any time (which he did after BOP). But no,he stuck with Bev. That to me says that he was the right man for the job. It's said that Bev wanted ELO to carry on touring but Jeff always preferred the mixing desk to the stage,It just seems rather odd that these days Jeff is appearing at every live gig on offer....

That may be true,I'm just saying that Jeff always regarded Bev as the right man for the job. Not sure about that..... he'd started (occasionally) to record without him by the time Discovery came along. Get to Time/SM and BOP and Bev was (as someone once put it on here) nowt more than a tea boy !
Plodding 60's style drummer who was in the right place and the right time. Guess they were really good friends for a long time and that's probably why JL had no desire to replace him.

or the thought was spending probably years up to his neck in legals trying to dissolve the partnership.

I think three people would cheer. The rest would go "who?". Now,now, you know that's not true.... I think it is. 95% of the fans are casuals that want to hear Mr. Blue Sky. 3% know more than five songs. 2% are nerds like us who can name other members than Jeff.

Bev Bevan's song writting was not very good TBA take Easy Street for example
I've had enough of forever being told what to say and do I've had enough I've had enough being always pushed around by the likes of you I'm making some plans of my own now And you know what you can do
