Over the years, JL has used quite a few engineers. Has anyone actually collated interviews that discuss their experiences of working with him. I have seen the Mack and Richard Dodd interviews but have there been any others?

That you didn't meet a girl who was small and very pretty, and ask her out on a date at the café down the street tom-o-orrow evening?

I've contacted Bill Bottrell for my upcoming book, and he's been absolutely fantastic so far. In addition to learning exactly when his first session with ELO was (during a break in the band's 1978 world tour, if you were curious), he revealed a brilliant story about literally jumping out of bed after being called to learn that Jeff Lynne - a musician whose music he was actually a fan of through Telephone Line especially - was sat in a reception, eager to record in the Los Angeles studio where he worked at the time. Also, I'm hoping to throw him a couple of final questions closer to when my project's nearly finished, as I've discovered that his safety cassette of the complete Secret Messages album* wasn't just a personally made dub, but a promotional item run off by CBS in very small numbers for industry insiders and journalists prior to its release, complete with the serial number JET CD 402. When the decision was made to abandon the 2LP format, all copies were instructed to be returned, with not even the band members having access to this anymore. Best of all, he's agreed to write a short introduction, but even I'm still waiting to see how this will turn out...
*Being its engineer, of course Bill kept one for himself. I've been reliably informed that he's got quite the personal archive of every release he's ever been involved with, and since he was the source of that upgrade to Beatles Forever along with three other songs from the same tape, intended to help verify the authenticity of Rob Ford's acetates when he sold these back in late 2005, there's no reason to doubt this.
P.S. Actually, Jeff wasn't hanging around doing nothing, but was rather jamming an embryonic version of a most unexpected song with Richard. Although it was just a demo years away from being released, Bill later recognised this and has mentioned it explicitly by name. Again, I've no reason to question his memory, particularly not when you consider how detailed some of his other recollections have been!

Thank you for the links and the bottrell stuff...all very good ...I look forward to the book. Be interesting to see what the U.S. Base engineers have to say about him to at some point too
