Jeff first says, “In the beginning, ELO was supposed to be very avant-garde, very off the wall. And then, once I started having hits, it drifted from that”. Than this, "… though some of the early stuff is unbelievable. I mean, I've never heard anything like it. I can't imagine what I was thinking." Is he talking about his avant-garde, off the wall songs? What he wanted to write all along? Would have liked more insight. Thanks Chippa!

Jeff sounds like he was still trying to distance himself from ELO, at this point. To me, it just seems as if he felt like he was a hamster on an endless wheel.
