Just finished reading "Broken Greek", the memoirs of rock journalist Pete Paphides, who was raised in Birmingham, UK. At one point in his story, Pete and his brother Aki, then teenagers, are on holiday in Greece, and meet a neighbour, Sophia, who's also a pop/rock fan:

"Mr Blue Sky" was playing in the supermarket this morning.
Nearly put my hand on a lamb shoulder in time with Mr Night, but managed to restrain myself.

Steve Wright played Livin Thing on Radio 2 this afternoon but chattered all over the violin intro. I was outraged on vlogdance's behalf, what a cheek!

Weird this week .... we are always literally years behind the curve as a family with TV. We have started watching two programmes Community (about a US College) and Upright about what appears to be a dysfunctional musician taking his piano across Australia. We are a random number of episodes into Community (as it is relatively amusing, easy and quick) and this was the first week of Upright for us. Community episode had the lead actor singing Evil Woman as part of a college debate in attempt to underline 'Man is basically evil' Whilst Upright is a comedy featuring the too frequently wonderful for my liking Tim Minchin (Musician/Actor and Writer).. in the first episode, there is a scene where the two leads are in a truck trying to understand each other, one is a young 16/17 girl (runaway..not sure yet ?) and Minchin's character. Cue a discussion on the odds of things happening. During a long TM speech about Michael Edwards and his very sad death and the incredible odds involved in it. Whole episode ends with JL's version of Livin' Thing (shame they didn't pick a track Mr E was on) ... my kids now think i pick tv shows for their ELO content

Self-initiated, so it doesn't really count, but I figured this was the most appropriate thread... I was over at someone's house today and they have an Alexa, so I asked it to play some ELO. I was quite impressed that several deep cuts were played, Buildings Have Eyes and Long Black Road among them. Pretty fun considering that I was expecting a greatest hits playlist.
