His ability to rise to the challenge and not care what anyone thinks of why he does what he does. He deserves it more than anyone. It's his life not ours to control.

I don't envy Jeff - just admire him and his talent. Oh, come on! A person without envy is boring as hell. Add a bit of spiciness (and envy) to your life.

Then I must be boring as hell because I can't think of a single person of whom feel I'm envious. I'm quite happy with my lot, have a good job and lovely wife and family. I'm not really motivated by money or greed as such. If some comes my way I'll gladly accept it but it doesn't consume me. But if pushed I'd have to say I envy his talent and wish I was as gifted musically as he is. But then I've never pursued playing music as feverishly as Jeff has so how do I know I'm not?

You must be a good person and envy does not get in your way, which is of course a good thing, but don't take the whole point of this thread so seriously. We aren't really talking about having bad, resentful feelings towards Mr. Lynne (well, in my case and a few others maybe yes ) for the talents he has or the good things that have happened in his life; it's more about joking about which of those talents you would have liked to have or which of those situations he was involved in you would have liked most to have experienced yourself. If you check out the previous comments you'll realize they were made in that mood. After all, all of us here respect and admire Jeff Lynne.

Jeff has a set of drums....I want a set of drums....drums are what I want....if Jeff gave me his drums I could not only play them but I could admire them for the tunes they have been on...are on....I would put them on display....I would make a website especially for them...I would call it Jeffs Drums.....people could stare at it...I would take lots of pictures of the kit, each part....maybe some selfies....then I would invite people to come and take their own selfie with Jeffs Drums and put their pictures on the website....
So...Jeff....any time you are ready....

[b To be honest I never take anything on a message board or social media that seriously. Life's too short. And I get the gist of the thread. It's just that question was asked and I answered it. And there aren't too many ways to say that you don't envy someone.

This is an old question, but excuse me for responding late. I am new here and enjoying the site very much. I envy Jeff because of all the happy "accidents" that occurred during his life: being born in Birmingham , having parents who let him set up shop in their living room, being a musical genius but not needing to read music, Roy Wood leaving him in charge, starting out in the 70's when concert rock really took off, and yet not acting crazy like so many superstars do. I don't know if he feels personally happy in his life, but he sure was blessed in many ways. And this isn't to say he didn't work really hard, but many people work hard and have nothing to show for it,
