Sad to hear of the death of legendary session, bassist Herbie Flowers at the age of 86. Famously supplied the double bass riff for Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side, and David Essex's Rock On as well as playing on Space Oddity and Diamond Dogs with Bowie and a latter member of T-Rex with Marc Bolan.
Also a founder member of Blue Mink and one of my favourite groups, the instrumental band SKY, with John Williams.(He also wrote, the No.1 hit Grandad for Clive Dunn!)

For all those hits he played on Herbie was someone who never really got the credit that he deserved.

Sky were one of my favourites as well. Saw them live many times...in fact I think they were probably the first gig I ever went to. Herbie was a fabulous musician (as they all were...Kevin Peek remains the best rock guitarist I've seen live, John Williams the best classical guitarist) and a superb raconteur. RIP Herbs

Sky were also one of my Favourite bands . They were my first gig The Eastbourne Congress Theatre after SKY2 had come out . I seem to recall Herbie being dressed as Noddy playing a Christmas light adorned tuba to Dance of the little fairies. He was such a great player and seemed to be a thoroughly nice chap. RIP Herbie

RIP Herbie Yes. Saw them many times at Birmingham Odeon throughout the 80's. Herbie was the raconteur and had a great sense of humour. Sadly now only John Williams and Drummer/Percussionist Tristan Fry still with us.
