I'll be hosting visiting relatives and trying to dodge 'Rona as people pass through. So far, no one in our household has been infected with COVID over the past four years. We are extremely vigilant because my 91 year old mother with several serious health conditions lives with us. It's stressful, but it's still fun seeing everyone who comes to visit. We opened gifts last night while we had a critical mass of guests at our home. We will have several other visits with the opening of gifts for and from those visitors over the next two weeks. So far, traveling relatives who have stopped to visit us for few days have had to change their plans for their next stop because 'Rona has paid a visit at their next destination... I'm cooking easy and festive meals and trying to minimize other sources of stress...We are playing (piano and double bass) and singing Christmas carols, watching holiday movies and concerts, and we'll watch the livestream of a local midnight Christmas Eve service tonight. We're sleeping in most days and we've driven around at night a couple of times to see Christmas decorations around town. We are very grateful this year for family and for the simple comforts of modern life. Last year on Christmas Eve, temperatures dropped very low in our area, and our power company had to institute rolling blackouts (unheard of here) to serve our area. We had no power for about 12 hours on a very frigid day. Having to look after my elderly mother under those conditions was challenging, as you can imagine...We managed ways to stay warm, and things worked out. It's sunny and mild today and we are thankful for that! Merry Christmas!

On the 27th I am driving north to Austin, TX, to hear the opening night of The Jungle Show (same as last year). VIP ticket like last year, the opportunity to stand 5 feet away from Billy Gibbons and Jimmie Vaughan (Fabulous Thunderbirds) and other Texas blues luminaries. It will be a rocking night for sure - the way rock n roll was meant to be played!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

For Christmas, we had our son and his new girlfriend visiting from Denver and our daughter and friend here as well. Quite nice to have the normally empty nest full up for a while. At the end of the week we'll drive down to North Carolina to see my sister and mother. We've only had a dusting of snow this year and none last year - but I keep hoping the ski slopes can have a better year in 2024.
