He always seemed to be in a permanently drunken stupor. There will only be ONE song played as a tribute to him today,unfortunately that will be FONY....

I'd like to think that Shane enjoyed most of his 65 years, although I know he'd been in poor health in recent times. There's a really good documentary floating about, probably BBC4 or Sky Arts, which revealed how surprisingly well read and thoughtful he was. If it's repeated I'd thoroughly recommend it. He did drive some people up the wall, but mostly seemed to make life a lot more fun for those he came into contact with. That's as good an obituary as any of us could hope for, plus he left that awesome back catalogue of rousing music.
