But second, what's the best place to dig out the missing tracks? Because I'm seriously getting into Hello My Old Friend and the Macarthur Parkishness (if that's a word) of Mandalay. I've found some versions on YouTube but the sound quality isn't good on my desktop. Eventually, of course, I hope like everyone that we'll get a release of the album as it was meant to be. But I can't really wait that long! Thanks in advance. There was a box CD set called "afterglow" that has a lot of unreleased tracks from Secret Messages. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afterglow_(Electric_Light_Orchestra_album)more info.

In a quick update, I can now officially reveal that Patrik Guttenbacher has become the latest person to help provide exclusive information for my project (as a side note, his own book - Unexpected Messages - desperately needs updating), and I've also been regularly discussing ELO-related subjects with Robert Porter over the last few weeks. I'd rather not give too much away at this point, though I did recently learn the acetates for Secret Messages from 11th March 1983 didn't quite include the final running order, despite Rob Caiger previously claiming that was the case. Expect details about a newly documented alternate mix of Four Little Diamonds plus confirmation that Jeff never actually completed a tracklist for Secret Messages he considered definitive... Yes, you read that last bit right!

Just wanted to revitalise this thread: I am still looking forward to this book and I hope it`ll be finished soon.

Sorry for the delay in keeping you all updated, but my life's been so incredibly busy over the last few weeks that I'm gutted to reveal I've asked for an extension from my potential publisher.
The truth is that this entire project has grown into something far more ambitious than I'd originally intended, and it needs to be emphasised that it's very much a labour of love for me. Checking every last detail (which I've learned is of absolute importance whenever you're dealing with the past activities of high profile figures) and making sure points are expressed in the clearest possible way takes up a lot of my spare time, but I've not had much of that lately.
However, there is some good news that has come out of this delay, as I've managed to uncover some extra details that will hopefully shed new light on how some of the songs from the period I'll be spanning in my book came to exist in the first place, not to mention I've unearthed an additional piece of information relating to one of the more interesting exclusives I'll be sharing. Without saying too much, there's a chance my efforts could help locate something from ELO's history once believed to not exist.
I'm sorry for being so brief and vague at this point, though I've not had the opportunity to be online much recently as I'm right in the middle* of putting all my research notes into some kind of order then desperately trying to flesh these out ahead of submitting a rough draft for a possible release by the end of this year. I'm still devastated at missing the 33.3rd anniversary of Secret Messages as my launch window, yet it's unlikely most would have got such an obscure reference, anyway.
In short, progress is a little slower than I'd anticipated, but it definitely hasn't come to a complete stop. Thank you once again for your kind support and seemingly endless patience...
*This depends on no further revelations turning up, of course!
P.S. Don't give up hope for us getting to hear Secret Messages in full one day, as the expanded Legacy Deluxe Edition proposed a few years back would be an ideal way to keep momentum up while Jeff's away working on his new album leading up to the Wembley show next year. Just like those buildings he once sang about, the powers that be have eyes and may be all too aware of how much such a package would please his most hardcore of fans.

I can probably just about get away with revealing this much for now: the missing item I mentioned earlier is indeed a film of sorts, but it's from the period I'm covering in my book...

Hello ShardEnder!
I just wanted to tell you that some months ago I decided to finally create an account, just to tell you that I've been reading your posts here and over Steve Hoffman's forum for a long, long time, and that YES, I'd definitely be buying that incredible piece of historical research. Even if I have to import it (I'm from Argentina). I was quite nervous for your continuing silence but now I know you're still on the road! Keep on with it!

fernandoamado: be careful with customs, have you ever tried to bring something from a foreign country? You have to fill in tons of forms with personal information about you, pay like double the prize of the book plus some extras, plus go to Retiro, queue for about 4 hours and in the end you end up having to convince the custom's employee that you bought it for a useful purpose or he/she won't give it to you. So was in the Kirchner's times at least (I'm telling you by own experience), hopefully now something has changed but last I knew it hadn't changed much.

Well, now we have that Amazon service which gets your product directly to your door, right? Yes, it was a mess back then with the Kirchners but I think it's easier now, I might have to learn how...

Let me know how that works for you, if it's working OK now that would open a new world of possibilities. I wonder if that door-to-door service is just limited to Amazon...
