Not exactly a household name but was a successful rock/metal guitarist and songwriter particularly with Whitesnake. Saw him in Whitesnake around '82 at the NEC (before Coverdale relocated WS to LA and went all 80's glam/hair metal and had his model girlfriend cavorting about half-dressed on Jaguars in their videos!

I wasn't ever a big Whitesnake fan, but Bernie Marsden was someone who was always a big name on the classic rock scene and it's really sad to hear he's passed.
RIP Bernie

I was watching a Top Of The Pops just last week from 1982 that had the original (and best) version of 'Here I Go Again'. Whitesnake were never in my list of favourite bands but I liked their hits. Sad news indeed, another rock icon gone....RIP Bernie.

He had a Jeff Lynne connection, as well. Jeff and Rosie Vela co-wrote the song A Woman Like That, for the soundtrack to the film Still Crazy, which Bernie Marsden performed. Honestly,it sounds like Jeff may have re-worked this song a couple of years later as All She Wanted.

Honestly,it sounds like Jeff may have re-worked this song a couple of years later as All She Wanted. Never heard of this movie and see that Chris Difford of Squeeze fame won an Ivor Novello award connected with the movie soundtrack. I may check the movie out.
A Woman Like That does sound like a track that Lynne reworked a couple years later, but there is no comparison. Bernie's track has energy and passion and I hate to say it here, but Lynne is not in the same category of guitarist as Marsden. The guy was a beast on the electric guitar. And his famous Les Paul guitar is named The Beast.
Bernie Marsden's career extended way beyond Whitesnake - many other recording credits with famous musicians, plus his own recordings of the blues and his tribute to Peter Green. He came out with a trio of cds the past 4 or so years that are absolutely worth owning especially if you are a fan of British electric blues and a historian of where rock n roll came from.
His passing is a big deal and he will be missed.
