Much has been said of Jeff's facial hair during this era. I feel its the definitive era for Jeff's facial hair. Much more stylish than the full moustache.
What intrigues me is why the video (which was of course used for stills for the cover of Twilight!) features, is it Dave Morgan?, playing an Ovation acoustic when there was no audible acoustic on the track.
So much ear candy on Time and so many great sounds and questions about the making of the album and the Time era videos, I'd love to read an in depth article or book on the making of this album.
I'm sure Mack would have plenty of recollections. If only Jeff would wax lyrical about this era.

The line-up for the Hold On Tight promo video was Jeff, Bev, Richard, Kelly and Mik on acoustic guitar, even though the studio recording was done by only Jeff after the rest of the Time sessions (along with The Lights Go Down - not Another Heart Breaks as once believed). I absolutely love Time, the history, the tour and yes, even Jeff's distinctive look from that brief period before it seems like the stress of working on Secret Messages for almost a year added a decade to everyone involved. In addition to other things, I'm also quietly working on a little something that will pay tribute to this album, but more on that later...
As for the cast of that shoot or anything else they might have appeared in, I'm utterly stumped! Answers on a postcard?

Jeff sort of looked like a beatnik in the HOT video. Where was his beret? lol

To me, HOT was the first genuine ELO video, in the sense of them making an effort to do something more imaginative and creative with the format, Here is the News, being another example. Whereas previously they relied on the cheaper 'band performance' style shot in the studio with a few video graphics and gimmicks thrown in, probably by the tv director Mike Mansfield, who also did the Wembley 78 video.

Ironically, it was Mike Mansfield who directed the Hold On Tight video, and I still maintain that was one of his best efforts - likely because Jet threw a record £40k to ensure it stood out from the pack on the fledgling MTV. Here Is The News was another promo clip that tried something different than just the usual performance-type format, while Twilight and Ticket To The Moon were clearly shot on the same day as more of a showcase for a laser show that didn't even represent what you could expect to see on the Time Tour. I really wish they'd bothered to shoot videos for The Way Life's Meant To Be and especially Rain Is Falling, but I guess the priority by that point for the band was getting through any remaining live dates then launching into the earliest sessions for what became Secret Messages.

I wonder if the estate of Mike Mansfield still own any of the films, rushes, out takes etc of all things they did for ELO? If so, they may have a 'script' as such for the HOT video (maybe they have a clean copy of the Wembley 78 show before he got his hands on it...)

As of a few years ago, it was suggested that everything Mike's production team shot for the Fusion and Wembley '78 shows is long gone. However, the final broadcast edits for those and all the episodes of his short-lived Supersonic series were preserved, but due to the number of artists involved, all that can be done is licensing these out to go back on air rather than being possible to release commercially.
