Took delivery today of the 2013 Japan reissue of Zoom, complete with the live CBS Studio recording of Do Ya. Which was the only reason to purchase this. I did notice, though, that the artwork was slightly different, which was a bonus. But if I remember correctly, the CBS Studio concert was never released in its entirety on one format? The cd ELO Live that I have is not the complete concert.
Is the only reason we have this situation because Craig Fruin convinced Jeff to split certain high profile songs among different markets? Can anyone refresh my recollection?

You are indeed remembering that correctly - it was Craig Fruin who masterminded that idea of splitting bonus tracks across different regional versions of releases as a way of encouraging collectors to double-dip. I wouldn't have minded as much if there was any rhyme or reason to the way material was broken up, but you had live tracks from 2001 and the Bungalow Palace acoustic performance dotted all over the place.
