Ah I'm sorry to hear it! I remember an interview a couple of years ago concerning Bowies surprise album release and he turned up completely glamed up to the nines like it was 1981! Whilst others laughed (I imagined) I thought he was cool to stay what he was passionate about. I was and I still am a huge fan of the new romantic movement and Steve, Duran Duran, Ultravox were fantastic key jigsaw puzzle pieces to what I believe was the last big movement. Whilst I like the Grunge era for a statement. ....snot green mohair cardigans, unkempt hair and 30 year old teenage angst pissed me off! But Steve and co really had a statement. R.I.P. Strange!

When Steve came along it completely changed the music scene in the early 80s. I remember many of my friends getting into Ska which I didn't really like. Then I bought Fade to Grey and Vienna on the same day from WH Smiths and thought this is the new music trend I am looking for, from that I got into Visage, Ultravox, Duran Duran, OMD and Depeche Mode. A great era.

Was a breath of fresh air wasn't it Horace? Music that really actually suited the fashion and attitude of a fanatical and bad mood time.....pretty much gone by '83....

R.I.P. Steve - I agree with jefflynnenut about his admirable devotion to his cause. He was responsible for the legendary Blitz Club where loads of future stars first tried out their new look, and even though he fell on hard times later he always seemed to believe things would come out right for him. Nos Da, Bach.

As someone who's always felt "a bit on the edge of things" People like Steve Strange taught me that being different wasn't a bad thing.Like you, because of him my musical tastes widened and evolved massively.Esp getting into OMD and Ultravox. Fantastic stuff RIP Steve
