I'm thinking of trading my car in soon, I'm not wanting anything flash or whatever (0 to 60 in 1.3 seconds and top speed of mach1 doesn't interest me whatsoever) BUT... I'd like one with a decent infotainment system and decent speakers, as I'm always playing music on the move. Looking at the fiesta or focus vignale edition from Ford that have the Bang and Olufson unit, maybe vauxhall astra that have the bose speakers, any thoughts?

Wish I could assist, but B&O would be an excellent system in a Ford. Here in America I have a Lincoln MKZ, which is the upgrade from a Ford Fusion, and my car has a THX II sound system, which is surround sound and theater quality. Since then Lincoln has gone to a Revel system, which I hear is even better. But I don't think those are offered in Europe by Ford.
Bose speakers are top grade too, but it doesn't sound like you want to spend 100,000 Euros on a car. Good luck and let us know.
I popped the new Secret Messages cd in the car's stereo this morning and got through 3 minutes of Hello My Old Friend (it was a short drive). I'm mostly interested in hearing the "new" songs run through this system.

My car has no CD player in it, have to say I miss it. Most cars these days are pretty reliable but Im old school and find it hard to look past Ford. Try to change every 2 years. Let us know what you buy Timeblue.

Most cars these days don't have them and rely on your phone or you have to download to a memory stick. I have dabbled in this (usb memory stick) where I've stuck a dozen albums onto one but I find it a bit faffy navigating around, it's so much easier with a cd...

I was looking at a Vauxhall Astra (maybe it's Opel in the US?) and the Elite trim and above that has the bose speakers you can buy for around £11000 to £15000 which fits my budget so not too expensive...

I think Vauxhall was once Opel in the U.S., but a check indicates that the Opel name has not been sold in the US since 1975, but Opels have been sold in the US under other names, mostly General Motor brands like Cadillac, Saturn and Buick.
I've been a Ford man since 1994 and it is hard to buy a new Ford or Lincoln car these days. Currently Lincoln doesn't make a passenger car - they are all SUVs. The MKZ I spoke of earlier was built in 2010, but it is a low mileage car by US standards (84,000 miles / 134,000 KM). Ford only makes the Fiesta and the Mustang, but those are niche cars over here.
My MKZ has a cd player, incorporated into the navigation system.

I just like picking a CD that I fancy playing that day, I agree seems a lot easier. Cars these day you need to do a night course to learn all the gadgets and tricks, Vauxhall are pretty good cars, parts are not badly priced either,

I can see the advantages of the USB stick (I'd imagine that you could put your entire catalogue on one) but like you say, you can just stick in a cd in a few seconds and enjoy the music without having to mess around with folders then scrolling down etc. Old school and proud of it!

So I stick with my cd. There is much to be said for old school! Not everything new is necessarily better, even if the ad industry tells you otherwise.
