I wonder why the band aren't shown in the windows of the house on the right in the main version? It's a bit cropped too I think. Think I'll be saving my pennies, but it will be interesting to see what the final price is. This version only had the single window too, the 2nd window was added to fit the band.

Reminds me of the Warner Bros record label.

Three or four people? Maybe Kelly's attorney insisted that he be on the cover with the other three as a condition of settling the lawsuit.

Reminds me of the Warner Bros record label. Yeah, only shorter, a full color rendering of a one sided palm tree lined street with different trees on its opposite side (actually on the lot of Warner Brothers Pictures) in Burbank, California!

Its very interesting looking at the early version of what became the SM cover. Is it just my eyes or are there almost gargoyle looking faces in the land just below the cooling towers?

The ELO logo that is in the auction is from Xanadu if I remember correctly, I don't know if it was an attempt to 'modernise' the logo or not but it didn't take off. I'm going to have a ride out to Rochdale this year to find the street that the album image depicts. I can do a Google maps link (not a hyperlink I'm afraid): www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.6319382,-2.1353298,3a,75y,127.22h,90.07t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1szNdiKfdZJrTshdsxA7mTYg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 You'll need to copy/paste into your browser, but you're looking for Spring Mill Walk, Smallbridge, Rochdale. No power station in the background - just fields. Hyperlink

I’ve added a hyperlink to the original post. Looks like some of the terraced houses on the left were knocked down and replaced by modern housing...

Guess where I am right now! The image above may be the wrong street, I just turned down this road to turn round and realised where I actually may be! But I can't seem to add pics on this phone!!!

ok, so here we are. there are two remaining terrace houses on the left, then a short run of 1980's looking houses, and then theres a sideroad of terraces that seem contemporary with the top two terraces. the house on the right with the 'royal street' sign is the one shown on the album cover, although the extra window was added to the image as its never had two windows on the front 1st floor.

more pics of the terraces on the left side. the white painted one is just visible on the roofline in the original images and the album cover. this was a clincher as theres some initial confusion because the next street along is almost identically laid out as terraces usually are.
